By Farooq Yousaf Published: May 8, 2019 0 SHARES Share Tweet Email Views expressed by prominent members of the Russian intelligentsia suggest that Moscow is moving towards a more balanced approach towards Pakistan. When Pakistan failed to secure a meeting with Russian President Vladimir Putin at the recent Belt and Road Forum, a report in the Express Tribune called it a major “diplomatic setback”. Sure, many would have expected Prime Minister Imran Khan to have at least had a casual meet up with the president of Pakistan’s new “regional ally on Afghanistan,” however, it seemed that Putin had other, and more important, commitments. In light of this failure, should it really be seen as a major “diplomatic setback”? Sure, the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) government is already going through a series of governance and public relations embarrassments; however, this failure cannot be pinned on Imran’s government as a … [Read more...] about Vladimir Putin ‘snubbing’ Imran Khan – why all the fuss?

By Raza Habib Raja Published: April 25, 2019 0 SHARES Share Tweet Email Both are leaders of major political parties, belonging to different generations and espousing different political ideologies. This blog is about two speeches that are invariably linked. The first, delivered in a firebrand style by a young leader, provoked a response from an older leader. By Imad Zafar Published: April 19, 2019 0 SHARES Share Tweet Email Asad Umar is hardly the only one to be blamed for the mismanagement that led to this economic turmoil. Though Umar’s removal did not come as a surprise – his performance was heavily criticised and his departure was expected – it is the timing that is questionable. Pakistan’s economy is in shambles, relying heavily on the bailout from the International Monetary Fund (IMF), which Umar had been negotiating for the past few months. Now when the deal has almost been finalised, his abrupt departure will only worsen confidence in the economy and its future. Then … [Read more...] about With Asad Umar gone, who will Imran Khan blame for his government’s failure?
