Every brand should embrace these 5 lessons in customer loyalty from super group BTS

· April 16, 2021 ·

advertisement advertisement advertisement RM, Jin, Suga, J-Hope, Jimin, V, and Jungkook. Before 2018, these seven names, along with the name of the musical group they comprise, BTS, were unknown to me. Then in September of that same year, the K-pop band made an appearance on The Tonight Show , and things changed in my household. My wife shared their performance with my then five-year-old daughter, who was drawn to how they looked, danced, and sang. And so began my daughter’s growing interest in listening to their music, watching their videos, and acquiring their collectibles, such as BTS-branded calendars, cards, dolls, and even an “Army Bomb” (more on that later). advertisement advertisement My daughter was a fan. I was not. I grew up loving songs and songwriters and, to me, it seemed that this group placed a higher priority on their appearance, including their performance, than they did on being serious musicians. The band was … [Read more...] about Every brand should embrace these 5 lessons in customer loyalty from super group BTS

One Online Retailer’s Quest To Create A “Smarter Buyer”

· October 23, 2014 ·

advertisement advertisement advertisement Media companies may still be slashing jobs–but at least one online retailer just hired an editor-in-chief. advertisement advertisement In an attempt to create a more informed event-discovery culture, StubHub is turning the tables and educating its own customers. Hiring its first ever EIC, former sports journalist Jonah Freedman, the ticketing giant hopes to generate a rich, original content experience and provide relevant event information, all for the sake of better informing consumers. “When StubHub came to me with this project it rang really true,” says Freedman. “They said, ‘We want to start producing our own content in-house. We want a rich content environment, that’s not just exposing our catalog, but also establishing StubHub with an editorial voice.’ When I came on board I wanted to help create a ‘smarter buyer.’ They latched on to that because that was in line with what they … [Read more...] about One Online Retailer’s Quest To Create A “Smarter Buyer”

Pace Gallery execs and Laurene Powell Jobs’s Emerson Collective aim to disrupt the art world

· February 8, 2021 ·

advertisement advertisement advertisement Superblue, the experiential art center created by Pace Gallery executives, plans to open its first location in Miami in early spring, after COVID-19 derailed plans for a 2020 opening. (Emerson Collective, Laurene Powell Jobs’s social change and investing arm, is a founding partner.) Superblue, which plans to open several locations, will commission installations from experimental artists such as Nick Cave, James Turrell, Es Devlin and teamLab . The twist? Instead of selling the art to wealthy patrons, Superblue will sell tickets, starting at $30, to the public. Fast Company’s Stephanie Mehta spoke with cofounders Marc Glimcher, who also is president and CEO of Pace Gallery, and Mollie Dent-Brocklehurst, Superblue’s CEO,  about the business model behind the concept, and why social-distancing restrictions might actually work in its favor. advertisement advertisement Fast Company : Why do … [Read more...] about Pace Gallery execs and Laurene Powell Jobs’s Emerson Collective aim to disrupt the art world

Inside the ad industry’s moonshot: Pitching you to get the COVID-19 vaccine

· March 16, 2021 ·

advertisement advertisement advertisement You can almost hear the needle on the record, as Billie Holiday’s “I’ll Be Seeing You” plays. An older woman looks out the window. We see the pictures of her family, her grandkids, sitting in frames and stuck to the fridge. A crayon drawing of two kids wearing masks reads, “We miss you Grandma.” The woman goes through her own version of the Mr. Rogers routine (putting on a comfy sweater and slippers) before anxiously looking out the window again. When the doorbell finally does ring, it’s not an Amazon or grocery delivery—it’s her family. She opens the door, and after a moment of brief hesitation the kids run in for a long-awaited hug. advertisement advertisement The look of love mixed with relief on the woman’s face as her grandchildren’s arms wrap around her shoulders, as well as that on her daughter’s face as she’s watching it happen, are what the Ad Council is aiming to convey with this … [Read more...] about Inside the ad industry’s moonshot: Pitching you to get the COVID-19 vaccine

Robinhood makes Wall Street feel like a game to win—not a place where you can lose your savings

· March 27, 2021 ·

advertisement advertisement advertisement Wall Street has long been likened to a casino . Robinhood, an investment app that just filed plans for an initial public offering , makes the comparison more apt than ever . advertisement advertisement That’s because the power of the casino is the way it makes people feel like gambling their money away is a game. Casinos are full of mood lighting , fun noises, and other sensory details that reward gamblers when they place coins in slots. Similarly, Robinhood’s slick and easy-to-use app resembles a thrill-inducing video game rather than a sober investment tool. The color palette of red and green is associated with mood, with green having a calming effect and red increasing arousal, anger, and negative emotions . Picking stocks can seem like a fun lottery of scratching off the winning ticket; celebratory confetti drops from the top of the screen for the new users’ first … [Read more...] about Robinhood makes Wall Street feel like a game to win—not a place where you can lose your savings
