- A + A SERDANG (Aug 14): The Malaysia Agriculture, Horticulture and Agro-Tourism (MAHA) Exhibition 2022 that ended on Sunday (Aug 14) recorded spectacular response with over 1.4 million visitors and registering sales of over RM260 million, exceeding its set targets. Agriculture and Food Industry Minister Datuk Seri Ronald Kiandee said that this year’s exhibition was the biggest in terms of visitors and sales, with 1.2 million physical visitors and 266 virtual, and the sales recorded included direct sales, online sales and business matching between eight foreign marketing companies. PEZA investment approvals down 30% in H1 to P22.49B
The Philippine Economic Zone Authority (Peza) saw its investment pledges drop by around 30 percent to P22.49 billion in the first half from P32.06 billion a year ago. The investments in the first half include 90 projects with projected annual export sales of $747.09 million. These are expected to generate 14,354 direct job opportunities. The Inquirer reached out to Peza for the reason behind the slowdown in investment approvals but has yet to receive a response as of press time. Most of the investment pledges came from Japan and Singapore, amounting to P8 billion and P2.17 billion, respectively. These were followed by the United States, the United Kingdom and the Netherlands. For the second quarter alone, however, ecozone investments more than doubled to P14.35 billion from P6.68 billion from the previous year. Strike averted at West Coast hospitals
New York (CNN Business) Unions and management at Kaiser Permanente have reached a tentative agreement that avoids a strike that was to start Monday at 14 West Coast hospitals and hundreds of more clinics and medical offices. The strike would have been by 32,000 nurses, physician assistants, pharmacists and other health care professionals who are union members. But additional job actions had been scheduled to start the following week that could have expanded the number of strikers to nearly 40,000. Workers are seeking unions at Starbucks, Dollar General and Amazon locations.
