Digital Lenders meet Meity officials to seek more clarity on app ban directive

"These 138 betting and gambling websites and 94 loan apps were engaging in illegal money laundering and were posing threat to financial security of our nation," an official source had said. (Representative image) The Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology (MeitY) met with several digital lenders in relation to the blocking of their websites and on platforms such as Google Play Store on February 8. Over the weekend, several domestic online lending platforms like Kissht and PayU-backed LazyPay were spiked after MeitY banned and blocked 138 betting apps and 94 loan lending apps that reportedly had Chinese links. The blocking orders were given under Sec 69A of the Information Technology Act 2000 on an ‘urgent’ and ‘emergency’ basis. The company has received approval from the US Food and Drug Administration (USFDA) for Glycopyrrolate Injection, a generic equivalent of Hikma Pharmaceuticals' Robinul Injection, the Mumbai-based drug maker said in a statement. Agnilet, the startup's single-piece 3D-printed engine, was recently successfully tested at the Indian Space Research Organization's (ISRO) Vikram Sarabhai Space Center (VSSC) in Thiruvananthapuram. The startup is planning a test launch of its two-stage booster Agnibaan in December 2022. And, based on the findings of the test launch, the startup plans to conduct a commercial launch with customer payloads in March or April 2023, Ravichandran said. Flipkart gets interim stay from Karnataka HC in Rs 1,100 crore tax demand case

Representative image In a relief for Flipkart, the company received an interim stay from the Karnataka High Court in a demand exceeding Rs 1,100 crore from the Commissioner of Income Tax - Appeals (CIT(A)) on January 31. The demand pertains to the assessment years 2016-17 and 2018-19, and Flipkart had been directed to deposit the same within four days. The company had filed writ petitions against the demand notices issued by the CIT(A), after upholding addition on account of capitalising discount as marketing intangibles and disallowing ESOP cross charges amounting to about Rs 4,500 crore and Rs 180 crore respectively for the two assessment years. Flipkart contended that the issue of capitalisation of marketing intangibles was decided in its favour by Income Tax Appellate Tribunal (ITAT) for 2015-16, and the allowability of ESOP cross charges is covered by rulings in the Madras and Delhi High Courts. ‘Final approval’ awaited for National Space Policy and FDI in the space sector: Union minister

Representative Image(Source: ISRO) The policy for foreign direct investment (FDI) in space sector and the National Space Policy are in the process of securing final approval from the government, Minister of Science and Technology Jitendra Singh said in the Parliament on February 8. Singh was responding to a query on whether the government has “accepted” the involvement of private sector companies, start-ups in the space technology businesses, and the current policies to support such business. Earlier, Moneycontrol reported that the stakeholders in the space tech industry were pitching for a 74 percent foreign direct investment , which would be in line with the FDI for the defence sector. FDI policy for space sector to be released soon, says ISRO chairman S Somanath

Representative image Indian Space Research Organisation (ISRO) chairman S Somanath on October 26 said that the foreign direct investment (FDI) policy for the space sector will be released soon. Somanath, speaking at the inaugural session of the Indian Space Congress, said, "Foreign direct investment opportunities are also being described and that policy will be out soon." In order to encourage more commercial activities and integrate space into India's larger economy, Somanath suggested that the way in which space is viewed needed to change. "The whole approach of looking at space technology has to change. This is precisely what the government looked at while coming up with the space sector reforms...
