Gioli & Assia: The Dj Duo Climbing To The Top Through Live Shows On Youtube

March 18, 2023 by www.forbes.com

Share to Twitter Share to Linkedin While many creators rose to popularity during the pandemic, the music industry was struck hard due to obvious reasons. Artists had to get creative to stay afloat, and there many musicians took on extra jobs. A sharp contrast to the world of social media, where creators found new audiences who were bound to spend their time in the digital world because of lockdowns and curfews. Giolí and Assia is a dj duo that makes an interesting hybrid of musicians and creators. A perfect example of how the passion economy enables creativity as the main driver to, not only make a living, but thrive, despite macroeconomic winds. The passion economy that enabled many creators to build big businesses through social media, has also changed a number of other sectors. Music, for example, might not be that obvious but Giolí, one half of the duo, declares that being a musician today is not what used to be. "Making music is so different from just 10 … [Read more...] about Gioli & Assia: The Dj Duo Climbing To The Top Through Live Shows On Youtube

New Documentary Spotlights The Plight Of America’s Iconic Drive-Ins

March 18, 2023 by www.forbes.com

Share to Twitter Share to Linkedin "I went to drive-ins growing up with my family, and I saw fewer of them as I got older. I could not understand why because we still have cars, we still love movies, there seemed to be no reason for them to be closed or falling into disrepair," lamented director April Wright, director of the documentary, Back To The Drive-In . It features eleven unique family-owned locations dotted across the United States and looks at the industry's plight and fight to keep them going. This is Wright's second documentary focusing on the iconic venues; the first, Going Attractions: The Definitive Story of the American Drive-in Movie , came out in 2013 and covered their history. Back To The Drive-In is now available On Digital & On Demand. She wanted to do a follow-up focusing on the people trying to keep them alive because "practically all the drive-ins left are family owned. It is these families putting their heart … [Read more...] about New Documentary Spotlights The Plight Of America’s Iconic Drive-Ins

For Many Immigrant Founders, Silicon Valley Bank’s Collapse Is One More Hurdle To Jump

March 17, 2023 by www.forbes.com

Share to Twitter Share to Linkedin The disappearance of a supportive financial institution, which may have given them their first business credit card or mortgage, hits a bit different for foreign-born entrepreneurs. T he 3.2 million foreign-born entrepreneurs operating businesses in the U.S. are key drivers of innovation, with immigrants most famously starting Silicon Valley heavyweights such as Google, Tesla and Yahoo. That’s even as foreign-born founders have had to work harder to overcome obstacles that include the thorny mess that’s U.S. immigration policy . The failure of Silicon Valley Bank, now operating under FDIC receivership, will be one more obstacle many of them will have to overcome. “Immigrant founders have a harder time raising capital and whenever there are events like this, it only makes things harder,” Payam Pourtaheri, an Iranian immigrant who is cofounder and CEO of Agrospheres, tells Forbes by email. Some immigrant … [Read more...] about For Many Immigrant Founders, Silicon Valley Bank’s Collapse Is One More Hurdle To Jump

Nvidia’s Chips Have Powered Nearly Every Major AI Breakthrough

December 15, 2020 by www.forbes.com

Share to Twitter Share to Linkedin “Within 20 years, machines will be capable of doing anything man can do.” Take a stab at when this quote is from. It wasn’t this year, 2010, or even during the ‘90s tech boom. It’s from one of America’s top computer scientists: in 1960 . You’ve surely heard about Artificial Intelligence (AI) before. “AI” often conjures up images of intelligent robots taking over the world. You’ll often read that it’s only a matter of time before AI steals all our jobs. But the idea of humanoid machines is nothing new. It began with the “heartless” Tin Man from The Wizard of Oz . By the 1950s, a generation of scientists and engineers were convinced we’d soon co-exist with clever robots. The term artificial intelligence was coined in 1954 at Dartmouth during the world’s first AI conference. Attendee Marvin Minsky, who later founded MIT’s AI lab, said “In 3–8 years, we will have a machine with the intelligence of a human.” … [Read more...] about Nvidia’s Chips Have Powered Nearly Every Major AI Breakthrough

Kingfisher Profits Slump 39% As Retailer Suffers Following Covid Reopening

March 21, 2023 by www.forbes.com

Share to Twitter Share to Linkedin Profits at home improvement retailer Kingfisher slumped in its last fiscal year following the end of Covid-19 lockdowns. At £611 million, pre-tax profits fell 39.3% year on year during the 12 months to January. Adjusted profit at the FTSE 100 firm dropped 20.2% to £758 million, although this was at the top end of expectations. Kingfisher — which owns the B&Q and Screwfix banners in the UK, and Castorama and Brico Dépôt stores across other European markets — saw sales drop 0.9% year on year to £13.1 billion. On a like-for-like basis revenues were down 2.1% from financial 2022. ‘Do-it-yourself’ (or DIY) retailers thrived during the pandemic as lockdowns boosted people’s interest in home improvement. But sales of paintbrushes, hammers and other products have fallen sharply following post-Covid reopening. Adjusted pre-tax profit margins at the company dropped in fiscal 2023 due to investment in expansion, higher … [Read more...] about Kingfisher Profits Slump 39% As Retailer Suffers Following Covid Reopening

The Technical Magic Of The XGIMI Horizon Pro 4K Projector

March 22, 2023 by www.forbes.com

Share to Twitter Share to Linkedin Recently, I was able to get my hands on the XGIMI Horizon Pro 4K Projector from XGIMI—a company that has made itself a staple in the AV industry over the past few years. Across years of evaluating models from BenQ, Sony, Panasonic and others, I never considered using a projector as my primary device for visual entertainment. But XGIMI's flagship in-home Horizon Pro 4K device may have changed my mind about that, thanks to its resolution, sound quality, thoughtful features and user-friendly design. Let's start by looking into the specs for this device—which is more like a minimalist entertainment system than a mere projector. BIZ BUZZ: Aranetas sue ‘negligent’ JP Morgan

March 24, 2023 by business.inquirer.net

The heads of the billionaire Araneta family—Jorge and Stella Araneta, whose names are synonymous with the Cubao commercial center that bears the family’s name—have taken JP Morgan Chase to court over their missing jewelry. Missing jewelry? Yes. Bloomberg News reported on Thursday that the power couple sued the global banking powerhouse for having auctioned off their valuables that were stored in the bank’s safety deposit boxes in New York City which they had been maintaining since 2006. Apparently, the annual dues for the safety deposit boxes were being settled through regular deductions from the couple’s bank accounts. In 2016, the bank sent notices that the boxes would be forcibly opened and their contents sold off if the overdue bills were not settled. In 2017, the boxes were drilled open and their contents moved to a safe location, Bloomberg reported. In 2019, the couple learned about this and settled all overdue bills with the bank promising that the contents would be … [Read more...] about BIZ BUZZ: Aranetas sue ‘negligent’ JP Morgan

Listening To Audeze

March 22, 2023 by www.forbes.com

Share to Twitter Share to Linkedin The Last of Us, a celebrated videogame has now become an absorbing limited series on HBO Max, regarded as the most successful adaptation of a game into film or limited series – there have been so many poor attempts in the past (1983’ Super Mario Bros , may be the worst, but Mortal Kombat , Wing Commander , Doom . Postal and Max Payne didn’t fare much better). The show has become a cultural touchstone and does emphasize, if it needed to be said again, the importance of gaming culture. The truth is that the pleasures of each form are not always the same, and in videogames having 60 hours of story and play and many levels to conquer creates engagement that a movie may not match. Part of what makes gaming so immersive is the technology — the visuals, of course; but also the quality of the sound. I’m not a gamer but gaming does check many of my boxes: I am interested in the variety and forms of culture, and also … [Read more...] about Listening To Audeze
