Kristine Tang Chan —CONTRIBUTED PHOTO Kristine Tang Chan is vice president of marketing and commercial leader for fabric and home care at Procter and Gamble (P&G) Philippines. She received the Mansmith Young Market Masters Award in 2012. In this interview, she shares her thoughts about insighting and converting them to big ideas. Q: What are the typical challenges related to gathering consumer insights and gaining big ideas? An insight is described as a “eureka” or aha! moment—the moment when you realize that this is what you have been looking for. In marketing, insights can be all around us because insights are consumer truths or needs that sometimes have not been articulated yet or are taken for granted because the people who experience them do not necessarily realize that the truth or need is more common than they think. The main challenge when it comes to gathering insights is when we focus on what a consumer is saying versus watching the consumers and observing their … [Read more...] about Hatch big ideas using consumer insights

How Former Notre Dame Basketball Walk-On Anne Weese Became Kansas State’s Mental Wellness Guru
Share to Twitter Share to Linkedin As she watched the Kansas State men’s basketball team play in the NCAA tournament last weekend, Anne Weese felt a mixture of nervousness and excitement. It wasn’t exactly like her time as a Notre Dame basketball walk-on during the 2002-03 and 2003-04 seasons. Still, Weese was just happy to have an intimate connection with sports, albeit with a different perspective than her playing days. Weese, who has a Ph.D. in counseling psychology, is the director of mental wellness and sport psychology for Kansas State’s athletics department. She helps athletes address mental health issues, assists coaches on best practices and serves as a liaison to the University’s counseling center and outside clinicians in case athletes need more specialized care in areas such as eating disorders or substance abuse. Weese cannot discuss specific counseling sessions she’s had with athletes. But she said the men’s basketball team and first-year … [Read more...] about How Former Notre Dame Basketball Walk-On Anne Weese Became Kansas State’s Mental Wellness Guru
How A TikTok Ban Would Deal A Blow To Creators, Businesses And The American Economy
A U.S. ban on the world’s most popular social media app would affect far more American businesses and people than just the 150 million using the platform here. C asey Evertsen drove down a suburban Utah street lined with trash bins, speaking into his phone’s camera as he gave a tour of the brightly-colored truck he uses for his garbage can-cleaning business. “If you like seeing dirty stuff get cleaned and watching how cool stuff works, follow along,” he said in the video shared on TikTok. “Let’s clean some bins!” Evertsen’s service, Bin Blasters , had for a whole year struggled to get traction through Facebook and Instagram. So taking a cue from his teenage daughter, he decided to try promoting it on TikTok instead. On his eighth video, just one month in, Evertsen “blew up.” "I went out and just started cleaning bins that day, started on our route, and I look at my phone like an hour later, and there's 17,000 views,” he recalled. “Then it just got in the millions.” … [Read more...] about How A TikTok Ban Would Deal A Blow To Creators, Businesses And The American Economy
Meet Nitepunk: A Georgian Music Producer Whose Career Started With Making Dance Videos
Share to Twitter Share to Linkedin Nitepunk, formally known as Lasha Mamulashvili, boasts a genre-bending, free-flowing and expressive sound. At the beginning of his expedition into dance music, the producer was integral to the rave scene in the country of Georgia and he had to work numerous jobs in the United States to support his passion for music. His voyage proves to have been worth it. His entry into the scene started with him dancing as a teenager. Eventually, Hollywood actor and dancer Robert Hoffman, known for his work in the “Step Up 2: The Streets” movie, saw his dancing videos and bought one of his songs that he grooved to. Mamulashvili capitalized on this as it was a massive deal in his country, and he used this opportunity to support the dance music scene in Georgia. His events were “nasty, sweaty raves” in lounges and abandoned places, such as an empty pool hall. Mamulashvili began dancing when he was three years old, specializing in the … [Read more...] about Meet Nitepunk: A Georgian Music Producer Whose Career Started With Making Dance Videos
AI-Generated Images Of Donald Trump Getting Arrested Foreshadow A Flood Of Memes, Fake News
Share to Twitter Share to Linkedin Former President Donald Trump wrote on Truth Social Saturday that he was due to be arrested in Manhattan on Tuesday, and urged his supporters to “protest.” Trump’s prediction didn’t pan out, but a flood of AI-generated images fulfilled his prophecy, going viral as an ironic joke, and misinterpreted by many as sincere. The most popular images are hilariously dramatic, showing Trump tackled by law enforcement, winded during a struggle; my personal favorite shows Trump running away from his captors. Of course, the image is clearly fake, because Trump doesn’t seem the sprinting type (the former president famously believes the human body contains a finite amount of energy, like a battery, and thinks that working out erodes that energy). Chronically online Twitter users and AI hobbyists likely recognized the images as fake at first glance, but others did not (anecdotally, many of my family members, young … [Read more...] about AI-Generated Images Of Donald Trump Getting Arrested Foreshadow A Flood Of Memes, Fake News
First Museum Retrospective For Michael Richards, Artist Killed During 9/11 Attacks, On View At North Carolina Museum Of Art
Share to Twitter Share to Linkedin Visitors to “Michael Richards: Are You Down?” at the North Carolina Museum of Art in Raleigh experience two exhibitions in one. All the objects remain the same. Their meaning, however, totally different. The first exhibition is seen through the perspective of knowing how the artist died. The second exhibition is seen through putting aside that knowledge–if possible–and considering the work as the artist intend. Richards (1963–2001), of course, could never have anticipated the circumstances of his death and how chillingly resonate it would be to his artwork. On the morning of September 11, 2001, Richards was working in his Lower Manhattan Cultural Council World Views studio on the 92nd floor of World Trade Center, Tower One . He often worked overnight , as he had on the 10 th into the morning on the 11 th . He would perish there along with thousands of others, not yet 40-years-old. Flight and aviation … [Read more...] about First Museum Retrospective For Michael Richards, Artist Killed During 9/11 Attacks, On View At North Carolina Museum Of Art
Forget about goal setting. Try these 5 strategies instead
Goal setting is one of those things that seems like it would be fundamental to success. If you’ve read any books or articles about getting ahead in your career or life, you’ve probably come across tips on setting goals (like SMART goal setting) so that you can successfully meet them. But setting goals may not be as relevant anymore, and there may be better alternatives to managing your career–and your life. Part of the reason goal setting may be becoming irrelevant is because of the speed of change and the volatility of the world. When everything is moving so fast and changing, the goals you set for yourself can become redundant. That said, it’s very powerful to imagine yourself succeeding in the future and focus on your preferred version of tomorrow. The key is to seek to be directionally accurate , knowing that things are constantly changing in a way you can’t always predict. Here are five effective ways to take charge of your career when you’re operating in … [Read more...] about Forget about goal setting. Try these 5 strategies instead
How to talk to your boss about working too much
When the pandemic hit and we all experienced a wave of uncertainty about how companies and jobs would fare in the fallout, workers buckled down and got things done. For many, that meant working longer hours. Remote employees worked an average of 2.5 hours longer per day in the U.S. and UK during the pandemic, according to a survey by cybersecurity platform NordLayer. And a 2021 study published in Nature Human Behavior found that remote workers are staying connected to work 10% longer than pre-pandemic. And the fallout can be serious. Research from Eagle Hill Consulting, LLC found that nearly half of employees are burned out from their work. A 2021 World Health Organization and International Labor Organization study found that long work hours (55 hours per week or more) contributed to more than three-quarters of a million deaths in 2016. Overwork is taking a toll mentally, physically, and creatively, says Sarah Deane, cofounder and CEO of MEvolution, a business … [Read more...] about How to talk to your boss about working too much
Breaking Down The Case Against Trump: New York Prosecutors Must Prove Complex Legal Theory—And It Could Be Risky
Share to Twitter Share to Linkedin Topline The Manhattan district attorney is reportedly toying with what experts have called an untested legal theory in potentially bringing charges against former President Donald Trump—adding to the unprecedented nature of a case that could mark the first-ever indictment of a former president. Key Facts The primary charge prosecutors are considering is whether Trump falsified business records when the Trump Organization reimbursed his former lawyer and fixer Michael Cohen for payments made to adult film star Stormy Daniels during his 2016 campaign for the presidency in exchange for her silence about her alleged 2006 affair with Trump, according to multiple reports . Prosecutors must prove that Trump orchestrated the payments, but legal experts have said his lawyers could argue that Cohen made the deal on Trump’s behalf and without his knowledge (though Cohen has explicitly, and repeatedly, said he did so … [Read more...] about Breaking Down The Case Against Trump: New York Prosecutors Must Prove Complex Legal Theory—And It Could Be Risky
