If you will forgive the stereotypes, the government represents the nagging future mother-in-law, the airline the hapless bride and employees the scheming sister-in-law.It’s no surprise the wedding did not happen. Suitors took flight when they realised the mother-in-law and sister-in-law were going to accompany the bride. To top it all, the bride was no open book (neither, probably was the suitor, but the bride is, as ever, being held to higher standards); her secrets would be revealed only after the engagement ring was slipped on.A key concern that has been reported in the media is that the potential buyer felt threatened by the level of management clout that the government would continue to exercise at a 24 percent holding: All the rights of a majority shareholder rather than a minority one.Close Another concern was the debt that would come with the company. As per information … [Read more...] about COMMENT-The problems with the Big Fat Air India wedding: Meddlesome in-laws, secrets, bad stars
advertisement advertisement There are few products less sexy that a thermostat. It is a boring, utilitarian commodity, right? The world agreed for over 100 years, until the lead designer of the iPod decided to shake things up. Tony Fadell took a completely fresh approach and challenged conventional wisdom. Rather than starting with the existing competitive set, he shattered industry norms from design to function. The result? The incredible new device known as the Nest Learning Thermostat. Besides its distinctive look, this baby ain’t your father’s thermostat. The artificial intelligence “learns” your habits. It has sensors to know when you are away so it doesn’t heat or cool an empty house. It’s connected to the web and evaluates external weather conditions to determine how to best respond inside. You can even control it from a smartphone app on the go. All this whiz-bang technology does more than fuel your inner geek. Most plant-based meat, such as the Impossible Burger or the Beyond Burger, uses protein made from soy or peas. The newest meat alternative uses protein made from air instead, in a process that transforms CO2 into an ingredient with the same nutritional profile as the protein you find in animals. advertisement advertisement Air Protein, a Bay Area-based startup, unveiled the first prototypes of “air-based” meat today. The technology behind it comes from an idea first explored by NASA in the 1960s, when scientists trying to figure out how to feed astronauts in space discovered that it was possible to use microorganisms to convert CO2—breathed out by astronauts—into food. Using a similar process on Earth, inside fermentation tanks, could help radically improve the environmental footprint of food. Eventually, the CO2 used in the process may come from direct-air-capture plants that have been designed to fight climate change by pulling carbon dioxide from … [Read more...] about The newest fake meat is made from thin air
