Editor's note: Below you'll find the week 97 release of the NYC Recovery Index, originally published July 12, 2022. Visit the NYC Recovery index homepage for the latest data. New York City’s economy continued to recover at a modest pace for the week ending July 2, 2022, with the overall index score rising one point to a score of 75 out of 100. Index gains were driven by a surge in restaurant reservations, which recorded their best result of the pandemic recovery thus far. On the downside, the COVID-19 hospitalization rate continued to rise, subway ridership declined for the second consecutive week, and rental vacancies declined further. New York City’s economic recovery stands at a score of 75 out of 100, according to the New York City Recovery Index, a joint project between Investopedia and NY1 . Over two years into the pandemic, New York City’s economic recovery is three-quarters of the way back to pre-pandemic levels. Can Splooting Help Beat The Heat? Here’s Why Squirrels Are Heat Dumping

August 11, 2022 by www.forbes.com

Share to Twitter Share to Linkedin If you are feeling a little too hot at work (in a temperature and not a sexiness sense), should you just lay on the floor on your belly and spread out your arms and legs? After all, that’s what many squirrels seem to be doing these days. With temperatures at the too freaking hot levels in recent week, squirrels and other animals have been doing a lot of “splooting” to beat the heat. Now, you may be wondering whether “splooting” is a made-up word because spell-check recommends using “looting” instead. But “looting” at work would be very different from “splooting” there, and the New York City (NYC) Department of Parks & Recreation defined “splooting” as “stretching out” on “cool surfaces to reduce body heat” on a tweet on Tuesday: As you can see in the tweet, another word for splooting is “heat dumping,” which I described for Forbes about a year ago . By stretching yourself out, you are trying to maximize the … [Read more...] about Can Splooting Help Beat The Heat? Here’s Why Squirrels Are Heat Dumping

The mix of old and new buildings juxtaposed with pockets of greenery presents a tropical feel that only a few cities can boast of. As the city moves with the times, what is to be done to the older buildings? Should they be replaced with something sparkling new? Or should we consider the historical value they bring to the landscape? City & Country asks property experts about the practicalities of upgrading these old properties — be it through converting, refurbishing or rebuilding. “This is a very interesting and evergreen topic, where all developers or landowners would like to know what to do with their old buildings when they … [Read more...] about Is it worth upgrading KL’s old buildings?

Is The FBI Corrupted To Its Core?

August 11, 2022 by dailycaller.com

Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) director Christopher Wray is running the agency at a time when even J. Edgar Hoover would blush at the FBI’s brash anti-American tactics. Hoover’s FBI infamously spied on Americans and gathered intelligence on high-ranking officials like sitting U.S. presidents. But Hoover never raided the home of former President Richard Nixon after his involvement in the 1972 break-in of the Democratic National Committee ( DNC ) headquarters located in the Watergate Office Building. Unlike Wray’s FBI, which raided former President Donald Trump’s personal Mar-a-Lago home for over ten hours on Monday. The FBI removed several boxes reportedly linked to the U.S. Department of Justice ( DOJ ) investigation into whether Trump mishandled White House documents — a significantly lesser offense than Nixon.
