Comelec’s Garcia claims 2022 polls ‘most successful election’ in PH history

August 12, 2022 by newsinfo.inquirer.net

FILE PHOTO: Comelec interim chair George Erwin Garcia. INQUIRER FILES MANILA, Philippines — For the interim head of the Commission on Elections (Comelec), the national and local polls last May were the “most successful” as it was the “fastest” in the history of Philippine elections. During a gathering for the last leg of its post-election assessment for the automated election system in General Santos City on Thursday, Comelec chairman George Erwin Garcia cited the Pulse Asia survey showing the 82 percent trust rating for the poll body for the conduct of the last elections to support his claims of “the most successful poll ever held in the Philippines.” “Na-restore ang trust ng mga mamamayan sa Comelec. Marunong naman palang bumilang. Tama naman palang mag-proclaim,” said Garcia, who was appointed as Comelec Commissioner by former President Rodrigo Duterte in March. Covid Split U.S. Along Political Lines More Than Other Countries, Poll Finds

August 11, 2022 by www.forbes.com

Share to Twitter Share to Linkedin Topline The U.S. is one of the most divided countries when it comes to attitudes about the Covid-19 pandemic, according to a new Pew Research Center poll published Thursday, underscoring the political dividing lines that split the nation on key issues and the partisan nature of individuals’ response to vaccines and restrictions. Key Facts The partisan gap over the importance of getting vaccinated against Covid-19 in the U.S.—46 percentage points—was the largest among the countries Pew surveyed, according to the poll, which was conducted among 24,000 people between February and June 2022 in 19 countries including Canada, Singapore, Sweden, Spain, Japan, the U.K. and Israel. Liberal Americans—Democrats or Democrat-leaning independents—were far more likely than conservatives—Republicans or Republican-leaning independents—to say getting a vaccine is very important to be a good member of society, 64% and 20%, … [Read more...] about Covid Split U.S. Along Political Lines More Than Other Countries, Poll Finds

VICTOR DAVIS HANSON: FBI, R.I.P.?

August 11, 2022 by dailycaller.com

The FBI is dissolving before our eyes into a rogue security service akin to those in Eastern Europe during the Cold War. Take the FBI’s deliberately asymmetrical application of the law. This week the bureau surprise-raided the home of former President Donald Trump — an historical first. A massive phalanx of FBI agents swooped into the Trump residence while he was not home, to confiscate his personal property, safe, and records. All of this was over an archival dispute of presidential papers common to many former presidents. Agents swarmed the entire house, including the wardrobe closet of the former first lady. Note we are less than 90 days out from a midterm election, and this was not just a raid, but a political act. The Democratic Party is anticipated to suffer historical losses. Trump was on the verge of announcing his 2024 presidential candidacy. In many polls, he remains the Republican front-runner for the nomination — and well ahead of incumbent President Joe Biden in a … [Read more...] about VICTOR DAVIS HANSON: FBI, R.I.P.?

Is The FBI Corrupted To Its Core?

August 11, 2022 by dailycaller.com

Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) director Christopher Wray is running the agency at a time when even J. Edgar Hoover would blush at the FBI’s brash anti-American tactics. Hoover’s FBI infamously spied on Americans and gathered intelligence on high-ranking officials like sitting U.S. presidents. But Hoover never raided the home of former President Richard Nixon after his involvement in the 1972 break-in of the Democratic National Committee ( DNC ) headquarters located in the Watergate Office Building. Unlike Wray’s FBI, which raided former President Donald Trump’s personal Mar-a-Lago home for over ten hours on Monday. The FBI removed several boxes reportedly linked to the U.S. Department of Justice ( DOJ ) investigation into whether Trump mishandled White House documents — a significantly lesser offense than Nixon. May 16, 2013 by dailycaller.com

The Internal Revenue Service (IRS) official who apologized for targeting conservative nonprofit groups for extra scrutiny is married to an attorney whose firm hosted a voter registration organizing event for the Obama presidential campaign, praised President Obama’s policy work, and had one of its partners appointed by Obama to a key ambassadorship. IRS Exempt Organizations Division director Lois G. Lerner, who has been described as “apolitical” in mainstream press coverage of the IRS scandal, is married to tax attorney Michael R.
