Vice President Kamala Harris said Thursday that the Supreme Court ruling overturning a New York concealed carry regulation “defies” the Constitution. The Court ruled that New York’s regulation requiring “proper cause” to obtain a license to conceal carry a handgun violates the Fourteenth Amendment by prohibiting a law-abiding citizen from bearing arms for self-defense purposes. “We, the president, myself, many of us are deeply concerned and troubled by the Supreme Court’s ruling today,” the vice president said. “I believe it defies common sense and the Constitution of the United States. I was in Buffalo [New York], I attended one of the funerals. We have seen the massacre of 19 babies and their teachers in Uvalde [Texas]. We can go on down the list about why, yet again, is on the front pages so to speak of the concern of the American people about what we can and what we have a responsibility to do in terms of reasonable gun safety laws.” WATCH: “And it is for that … [Read more...] about Kamala Harris Says SCOTUS Ruling ‘Defies’ The Constitution

Democratic California Rep. Maxine Waters vowed Friday to “defy” the Supreme Court after it ruled Friday to overturn Roe v. Wade. Women will be in control of their bodies, and if they think black women are intimidated or afraid they got another thought coming,” Waters said. “Black women will be out in droves, we will be out by the thousands, we will be out by the millions, we are going to make sure we fight for the right to control our own bodies.” (RELATED: Supreme Court Majority Says It Couldn’t Let Potential Backlash Affect Their Decision On Abortion) The court ruled Friday in a 6-3 decision to overturn the landmark 1973 Roe v. ‘Are You Telling People To Break The Law?’: MSNBC Host Presses CA Lt. Gov. On Calls To ‘Defy’ SCOTUS
MSNBC host Katy Tur pressed California Lieutenant Gov. Eleni Kounalakis on her calls for Americans to “defy” the Supreme Court. Kounalakis said Friday that the Court deciding to overturn the 1973 landmark decision Roe v. Wade is “delegitimizing the Court” as a “powerful institution for American democracy” and called on women to come to California in order to legally access abortions. “Who is Clarence Thomas? Is he my Saudi Arabian father who’s gonna tell me what I can and can’t do with my body, with my life? That’s what this is coming down to,” she said. “These people have a misconception about who is going to listen to them and so my message to the women and to anyone seeking their reproductive freedom across this country is to come to California, you will have that freedom here. Be prepared to live in defiance of these six people who think that they have the right to tell you what you can do.” “Are you telling people to break the law?” Tur pressed. Sumeet Mehta and Smita Deorah, founders of LEAD School With students making their way back to physical classes, school edtech is witnessing a major boom and opening up opportunities to double down on growth and innovation plans, according to Sumeet Mehta, Chief Executive Officer (CEO) and co-founder of LEAD School. “When consumer ed-tech zigs, school ed-tech zags,” said Mehta in a recent episode of Bits to Billions. According to Mehta, trends in consumer ed-tech are not relevant in school ed-tech. He said, “Our trajectory is inverse to what is happening in consumer ed-tech. Defying human instincts (KOR)
PARK JIN-SEOK The author is a national news editor of the JoongAng Ilbo. Mozi, the founder of the school of Mohism, is not considered a mainstream thinking in the Hundred Schools of Thought of the Warring States period of China. No state has adapted Mohism as its guiding philosophy. It’s not because the philosophy is bad. It is actually too hip and cool to believe it’s from 2,000 years ago. The focus is “impartial love,” the idea of universal love regardless of gender, age, class or relationship. It was also the origin of “no work, no food.” Unearned income, or wealth without justification, was considered a sin, while equal opportunity, fairness and justice were valued. The problem was that the ideas were hard to implement. The accomplishment of the Mohist philosophy could only be attained through struggle and patience. Those who “wore rough clothing, clogs and grass slippers, never resting day or night until no flesh was left on their calves or hair on their shins” were … [Read more...] about Defying human instincts (KOR)

Sony Studios Defy Jim Ryan’s Neutrality Request After Roe V Wade Overturned
Share to Twitter Share to Linkedin We are seeing a wide range of reactions from game studios across the industry in the wake of the overturning of Roe V. Wade by the Supreme Court yesterday. They range from Destiny developer Bungie, who immediately published a policy that they would pay for employees in affected states to travel to ensure their reproductive rights remained intact, to EA, who crafted a vague statement about “the well-being of our people” that seems crafted to be as inoffensive as possible. But Sony is a special case. Previously, when the leaked Roe draft went out earlier this year, Jim Ryan sent an email to Sony employees saying that “we owe it to each other and to PlayStation’s millions of users to respect differences of opinion among everyone in our internal and external communities. Respect does not equal agreement. But it is fundamental to who we are as a company and as a valued global brand.” He then went on to discuss how he … [Read more...] about Sony Studios Defy Jim Ryan’s Neutrality Request After Roe V Wade Overturned
What CPAs Should Think About During This Crypto Winter
Share to Twitter Share to Linkedin As cryptoassets enter a new crypto winter, the temptation is to relegate cryptoassets (and blockchain) to the backburner, and that would be a disservice to the accounting profession as well as the investors seeking to allocate capital to this fast growing asset class. While cryptoassets have moved far beyond simply discussing bitcoin price volatility, Certified Public Accountants (CPAs) would be forgiven for remaining focused on the implications of said volatility. Given the dramatic drawdowns in prices across the crypto sector, the implosion of several prominent crypto banking protocols and increasingly negative sentiment, allocating even more time to crypto might seem like an odd choice. That said, even during the current crypto winter, the pace and prevalence of crypto adoption continues to accelerate almost unimpeded. With the number of individuals using cryptoassets numbering in the hundreds of millions, with a billion … [Read more...] about What CPAs Should Think About During This Crypto Winter
‘Extremely Subjective’: Lawyer Sounds Off On California’s Plan to Defy SCOTUS On Carry Permits
A legal expert discussed how California intended to sidestep the Supreme Court’s ruling regarding the issuance of concealed carry permits during a Fox News appearance Monday night. “California is signaling very hard that it is not going to make it easy for law-abiding citizens like myself sitting here in San Francisco to be able to go and get a concealed carry permit, which is now my right under the new Supreme Court precedent,” Harmeet Dhillon of Dhillon Law Group told Fox News host Laura Ingraham, adding that the only thing Democratic Attorney General Rob Bonta of California was changing in the state was going to a “shall issue” system.
