Viet Nam News DAVOS — Prime Minister Nguyễn Xuân Phúc yesterday proposed the World Economic Forum (WEF) collaborate with partners to create a global network to share ocean data. He was speaking at a session themed “Meeting of leaders on ocean action agenda” at WEF Davos 2019 in Switzerland. The Vietnamese leader said there needed to be breakthrough efforts in ocean management, especially in the allocation and mobilisation of sources to respond to challenges posed by climate change, rising sea level and to support severely-affected countries. The fourth industrial revolution has brought opportunities for development in various sectors including ocean protection, he said. Global political and business leaders are gathering in the mountain resort of Davos in Switzerland this week for the World Economic Forum’s Annual Meeting. It starts on Tuesday 22 January, and will wrap up on Friday 25 January. What's on the agenda? 'Globalization 4.0: Shaping a Global Architecture in the Age of the Fourth Industrial Revolution' is the theme this year. According to the World Economic Forum's website, it picks up on two major trends — global cooperation challenges, and changes as a result of the high-tech digital revolution. Economist Klaus Schwab is the founder and executive chairman of the World Economic Forum which will be holding it’s Annual Meeting in Davos, Switzerland January 22-25, 2019. Schwab explains the theme of this year’s meeting, “Globalization 4.0: Shaping a New Architecture in the Age of the Fourth Industrial Revolution.” When asked if we were currently in a trend of deglobalization he said no, “we have to make a differentiation between globalization, which is a fact, and globalism.” He says the biggest threat to economic stability is the imbalances in the world. Schwab says he believes trade imbalances are a problem. He is not an unconditional advocate for free trade, which he says is great but only if there is equality. Mr. Trump and congressional Democrats are at an impasse over the president’s request of over $5.7 billion to build the wall. That impasse caused a partial government shutdown, which has been going for nearly three weeks.
