Checks & Imbalances: Pro-Choice Billionaires, Abortion-Themed Ads
Share to Twitter Share to Linkedin We continue looking at abortion’s impact on the midterm elections, as well as the latest district attorney who wants a crack at Donald Trump. MacKenzie Scott, Michael Bloomberg Among The Biggest Billionaire Donors To Abortion-Rights Groups “T hough the nation’s wealthiest philanthropists have been giving to reproductive rights groups for decades, the cause constitutes a relatively small portion of overall philanthropic giving,” reports Rachel Sandler: According to the National Committee for Responsive Philanthropy, $1.7 billion went to reproductive rights nonprofits from 2015 to 2019. That’s 2.2% of the $76 billion from foundations during that time period. Even less money, $361 million, was earmarked specifically for abortion rights and services, as opposed to other forms of reproductive healthcare. Much of that funding comes from the Susan Thompson Buffett Foundation, the largest single donor supporting … [Read more...] about Checks & Imbalances: Pro-Choice Billionaires, Abortion-Themed Ads
Generational Labels: Why It’s Time To Put Them To Rest
Share to Twitter Share to Linkedin You see them all the time–generational labels assigned to age cohorts suggesting shared beliefs, behaviors and values. They are used in marketing and advertising strategies as well as in articles and research. If they are so prominent, then why are they a problem? Because the assigned characteristics are trivial, misleading and often lead to bigotry. Age-bashing and generational finger-pointing negatively influence societal attitudes from healthcare to employment. And it goes both ways. It’s ugly, to be sure. Cohen, Professor of Sociology at the University of Maryland, College Park, is keen on eradicating them. Last year, Dr. Cohen sent an open letter to Pew Research Center, imploring them to refrain from using generational labels that do … [Read more...] about Generational Labels: Why It’s Time To Put Them To Rest
Some Traits That Make You a Good Entrepreneur Also Make You Susceptible to Addiction. These Strategies Can Help
In my line of business, which involves the sale of drug testing kits, I run into many a sad story about how addiction has ruined lives and caused an immense amount of grief among people who get hooked on any number of substances, especially opioids . And while you may think I am talking about people who were born into poverty and were down on their luck and looking for an escape (and I've heard those stories, too), I'm not. I'm talking about people who have lived privileged lives, earned college degrees, started successful practices and followed their entrepreneurial dream. David J. Linden, professor of neuroscience at Johns Hopkins University School of Medicine, says there is some evidence that the traits that make a good entrepreneur also make one susceptible to addiction. It can also be a rather lonely road entrepreneurs walk as they get their businesses off the ground and that, coupled with a constant fear of failure hanging over their heads, may also lead to … [Read more...] about Some Traits That Make You a Good Entrepreneur Also Make You Susceptible to Addiction. HIGHLIGHTS: Wisconsin Beats Northwestern 63-48, Badgers Clinch Double-Bye In The Big 10 Tournament
The Wisconsin Badgers secured a double-bye in the Big 10 tournament after a 63-48 Wednesday night win over Northwestern. While I don’t think anybody ever doubted who would win the game Wednesday night, college basketball has been off the rails this season. (RELATED: David Hookstead Is The True King In The North When It Comes To College Football) Despite a pretty pedestrian performance across the board for the Badgers , Northwestern was absolutely no match on any front as we cruised to a win. Now, we’re tied for first place in the Big 10, and we won’t have to play in the conference tournament until Friday after getting a double-bye.
