Just as the accompanying dramatic orchestral music swells, he opens his mouth, expelling a cloud of smoke and revealing a folded playing card that had been inexplicably moving between both of his hands and his vest pocket. Fellow magician Don Greenberg watched Lim, then 23, perform this act in July 2015 in Jacksonville, Florida, as part of a competition run by the International Brotherhood of Magicians. Greenberg had helped organize similar events for the brotherhood in the past, but this time he was there as a spectator. As we head into Labor Day weekend, temperatures will take a break from their recent extremes. Don’t get too used to the cooler weather, though: More heat and humidity will arrive later this weekend and, especially, all of next week. High pressure off the Atlantic has been on steroids this summer, and although it will relax its grip on New England on Friday and Saturday, it will once again become a dominant force in our weather through the first week of September. If you want a long-term break from the heat and humidity, you’ll have to wait until the middle of September at the earliest. Look out for scattered showers and storms throughout the region on Friday and into early Saturday. Some of those could be quite strong, so heed the warnings from local forecasters. We have two more days of humidity before drier air moves into the region for the latter part of the weekend. Here’s your detailed weekend weather forecast: Expect thunderstorms on Friday. A cold front is approaching the area Friday, and as we get later in the afternoon and evening, showers and thunderstorms could impact the region. Most of these thunderstorms will occur in western and central New England. Greater Boston will remain sunny for much of the morning and early afternoon, with the chance for thunderstorms arriving after 2 p.m. The chances that some of these storms reach strong to even severe levels is definitely in the cards. The good news is that Friday will be an excellent beach day. The bad news? Humidity will lurk just to our south, and as it tries to creep northward, it can produce showers, thunderstorms, and torrential downpours, especially on Saturday. Some waves of low pressure may develop along this boundary, and that would only increase the rain we get the next few days. This pattern will continue into next week. It doesn’t mean it’s going to be raining all the time, nor does it mean we won’t see any sunshine at all. Friday, however, is definitely the nicest of the next five to seven days.
