G7 leaders work to ‘starve’ Russia of oil money as Zelensky says he wants the war over by the end of the year

June 27, 2022 by edition.cnn.com

Telfs-Buchen, Austria (CNN) Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky told G7 leaders during a virtual meeting Monday that he wants the war in Ukraine to end by the end of 2022, according to a source familiar with his remarks , as leaders worked to starve Russia of its oil revenues and mitigate the economic fallout of the conflict. The dual missions -- sustain support for Ukraine while easing economic pressures at home -- have defined this year's summit of leading democracies, held high in the Bavarian Alps. While largely united, the leaders are all facing their own political imperatives to see a momentum shift in the fighting and bring an end to the conflict quickly. To that end, leaders were nearing an agreement to try capping the price of Russian oil, depriving the country of revenues that have soared amid the global spike in energy prices. Value the toil of seafarers

June 25, 2022 by www.thestar.com.my

TODAY is Day of the Seafarer. Inaugurated in 2011 under the auspices of the International Maritime Organisation (IMO), this day offers a wonderful opportunity to appreciate the contribution of seafarers without whom the flow of goods and international trade would come to a halt. With merchant ships carrying up to 90% of the global trade and the maritime sector operating at breakneck speed, it’s difficult to imagine life without the participation of seafarers. But their job sometimes comes at great personal cost to themselves and their families. Every seafarer’s voyage is unique, but they all confront similar obstacles, with mental health management being one of the most serious concerns. In the past, after their ship departed port, seafarers were cut off from the outside world. Today, with data transfer feasible aboard and ashore regardless of their ship’s position, crews are now able to remain in contact with their families and friends. In this aspect, Internet access should … [Read more...] about Value the toil of seafarers

From Supply Crunch To Supply Glut: How To Navigate Uncertainty?

June 27, 2022 by www.forbes.com

Share to Twitter Share to Linkedin Retailers might have thought they’d seen enough disruption these past two years to last a lifetime. If only this was the case. The industry must once again confront a new set of economic headwinds. From high inflation to eroding confidence to ongoing supply chain issues, pressure on the global economy is growing — and the effects are weighing heavily on both consumers and businesses. Retail sales have contracted since 2021, and consumer sentiment is down significantly, nearing levels we last saw at the time of the 2008 financial crisis. Clearly, inflationary pressures are a factor here. High and persistent inflation is eating into incomes and consumer purchasing power. Discretionary spending is pulling back as a result. However, Accenture’s ACN analysis indicates other dynamics are also in play. Take the fact that consumer spending on durable … [Read more...] about From Supply Crunch To Supply Glut: How To Navigate Uncertainty?
