The leader of one of Thailand’s southern rebel groups claimed yesterday that the group was behind a double bombing that killed a villager that day. Chalermchai Petchkart, the police chief of Sai Buri district in Pattani province, where the bombing happened, told Benar News that the bomb that exploded and killed the villager had been left in a paper bag. “His friend walked to the field as Navi parked his motorbike near a tree and found a paper bag. He picked it up, and the bomb exploded, killing him there”. The group, Patani United Liberation Organisation, is considered one of the oldest secessionist movements in the Deep South. The last time PULO committed an attack was reportedly in 2016. The attack yesterday came just weeks after another southern rebel group, Barisan Revolusi Nasional, agreed with the Thai government to a 40-day ceasefire. The ceasefire agreement came in light of the Islamic holy month of Ramadan, and Thailand’s Songkran holiday. Thailand entry may be simplified by switching to antigen test
At the CCSA meeting on Friday, the Ministry of Public Health will propose easing entry requirements by replacing RT-PCR tests with a much cheaper and faster antigen test. Health authorities report that Minister of Public Health Anutin Charnvirakul will propose the revision at Friday’s meeting to be enacted from December on. The simplifying of the required Covid-19 test is part of an effort to relax entry restrictions to encourage tourists to come to Thailand. Currently, internationally arriving travellers transfer to an approved hotel where they will undergo an RT-PCR test and then be confined to their room until the test results are received, typically between 6 hours and 1 day. While travellers in the Test & Go program are not required to quarantine for any amount of time, the need to test negative for Covid-19 in a process that can take up to 24 hours, creates what is essentially a needed 1-day quarantine. The proposed entry relaxation would also include expanding the … [Read more...] about Thailand entry may be simplified by switching to antigen test

Securing a deal on fertilisers was among the trade objectives of a Thai delegation led by Deputy Prime Minister and MFA minister Don Pramudwinai last week. The delegation met with Khalid Abdulaziz Al-Falih, Minister of Investment of the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia, in a bid to further restore economic relations. It was the first time in 32 years Thai dignitaries had set foot in Saudi Arabia for formal talks. Economy needs clear pathway: Somkid
Somkid: Leadermust plan ahead A leader must have a clear vision to bring Thailand out of its economic crisis, said former deputy prime minister Somkid Jatusripitak at a public lecture on Sunday, his first since his exit from the Prayut administration in July 2020. The lecture was delivered at the Leadership for Change seminar on Sunday, a few weeks after the newly established Sang Anakhot Thai Party announced Mr Somkid had accepted an invitation to serve as the party's prime ministerial candidate. The former deputy premier discussed six issues and urged people to reflect on them while stressing throughout the lecture that he was not pointing a finger at anyone. Mr Somkid said the global community is faced with more risks and uncertainties, which will only become harder to predict. He noted the Covid-19 pandemic, which has caused widespread adverse impacts on the economy and people's livelihoods, is still not over. Sexy street vendor’s sales spike after busty shirt goes viral
When photos and videos of the “sexy street vendor” went viral, the 24 year old Chiang Mai woman says her orders for the Thai pancakes, known as “khanom Tokyo,” multiplied… just by showing some cleavage. (This was a top story on The Thaiger yesterday. So, we’re doing a follow up, you know, for the readers.) The vendor, known as Olive, drew so much attention by cooking pancakes in a revealing top that her sales jumped from just a few dozen packages of khanom Tokyo to 200 in just a day. Many have stopped and stared. Olive told Thai media that a motorbike driver crashed his bike because he was rubbernecking. But men aren’t the only ones drawn to Olive. Thai fashion bloggers are also interested in the woman’s cardigan-style shirt which is loosely pinned below at the top and nothing is worn underneath. Fashion bloggers say the shirt is called the Slinky Tank Top, which has been worn by celebrities like Kylie Jenner as well as by several Thai actresses and models. Here’s a video … [Read more...] about Sexy street vendor’s sales spike after busty shirt goes viral
Travel agents call for tourism fee to be postponed until industry recovers
The Association of Thai Travel Agents is urging the government to postpone the implementation of a new tourism fee until the sector has fully recovered. Sisdivachr Cheewarattanaporn says Thailand has averaged around 3,000 – 4,000 foreign tourists per day, since re-opening on November 1. According to a Bangkok Post report, he says confidence is low ahead of the coming high season as many target market countries are battling new waves of Covid-19. Added to this is the high cost of PCR testing on arrival. Sisdivachr says the cost in Thailand is often much higher than in countries tourists are arriving from, citing India as an example, where a PCR test costs between 250 and 400 baht. He says the high price Thailand is charging risks deterring tourists. Meanwhile, his colleague, Adith Chairattananon, says tourism operators want more clarity around how the tourism fund will be managed and who will benefit from it. Adith says that to ensure transparency, the government should … [Read more...] about Travel agents call for tourism fee to be postponed until industry recovers
