Roe v. Wade is no more, but this is not 1972, the year before it was passed. In some ways, it’s even worse. advertisement advertisement When the Supreme Court ruled last week that banning abortion is not unconstitutional, abortion immediately became illegal in several states with “trigger laws” primed to take effect with just such a ruling. It’s about to become illegal in several more states in which previously passed laws restricting abortion had been blocked by federal courts. Millions of people are about to lose access to safe, legal abortions, and those who provide abortion access or support will face consequences ranging from civil suits to arrest in some states. These are grim times for abortion access. And the forecast is even more grim because we now live in an era of unprecedented digital surveillance. I’ve spent most of my career helping to protect activists and journalists in authoritarian countries, where it is often wise to think … [Read more...] about Now that ‘Roe’ has been overturned, it’s up to the tech industry to protect our data

A cybersecurity expert explains why it’s time to get serious about Zero Trust
From keynote presentations at the cybersecurity industry’s biggest events to everyday news headlines, everyone appears to be talking about Zero Trust. The Biden administration has now even mandated it for government agencies. Countless security vendors put it in their marketing materials, but what is it, how did we get to this point, and how do organizations and now federal agencies put it into practice? advertisement advertisement Fundamentally, Zero Trust is a strategic approach to cybersecurity that secures an organization by eliminating implicit trust and continuously validating every stage of a digital interaction. We find implicit trust in many places within the IT infrastructure, such as trusting users sitting at headquarters differently than those working remotely from their home. Imagine if airports only checked your identity when you passed through the initial security checkpoint. Theoretically, once you’re in the concourse, you’d be free … [Read more...] about A cybersecurity expert explains why it’s time to get serious about Zero Trust
China AI giant SenseTime dives as much as 51% as lockup expires
- A + A HONG KONG (June 30): Chinese artificial intelligence software maker SenseTime Group Inc slumped as much as 51% in Hong Kong on Thursday, after a lock-up of its shares expired following its December initial public offering. The shares ended the day down 47% at HK$3.13, their lowest ever, and below their IPO price of HK$3.85. A lock-up on a portion of the stock owned by cornerstone investors and shareholders — amounting to 23.4 billion of shares — expired on Wednesday. “SenseTime’s average liquidity looks very low, and it’s also subject to US sanctions. That means its investor base is probably more concentrated, so the impact of lockup expiry is higher,” said Vey-Sern Ling, senior analyst with Union Bancaire Privée. SenseTime joins a list of technology companies that have seen insiders selling their shares after a strong rebound since mid-March. This week, Tencent Holdings Ltd’s major backer announced it will further cut its stake in the company. 7 Renewable Energy Strategies We Can Learn From Iceland
Share to Twitter Share to Linkedin “My favorite part of Iceland's renewable energy story is that it started small. It started with innovation, entrepreneurship,” Halla Hrund Logadottir , the Director-General of Iceland’s National Energy Authority (INEA), said in an extensive interview for my Electric Ladies Podcast during my whirlwind tour of their clean energy technologies recently. “In terms of how has this developed, originally organically and then supported by the government and by policies and funding, which is essential for any development.” Like any entrepreneurial venture, it started with one inspired person who bucked convention to find another way. “In the case of geothermal, there was a farmer who found a way in the early 1900s to connect his farm to a neighboring hot spring. And then, his municipality, (and) a few other farmers did the same. And then from there, it took off to politics….and became a part of government strategy to … [Read more...] about 7 Renewable Energy Strategies We Can Learn From Iceland

These management changes for neurodivergent employees make work more accessible for everyone
When we talk about inclusion today, we think of identity markers such as race, class, ability, and sexual orientation. But another important consideration is neurodiversity, which refers to the different ways in which people’s brains interact with the world around them. This facet of inclusion is gaining traction, but there is still a lot to be done in terms of designing workplaces that not just accommodate, but also nurture, neurodivergent employees. advertisement advertisement The full scope of neurodivergence is still under debate, but it includes a number of psychological profiles, with autism, dyslexia, and ADHD being prominent examples. It’s estimated that between 10 and 20% of the global adult population are neurodivergent, but with a steadily increasing number of diagnoses across the world, it’s clear that there are more neurodivergent people in the workforce than we may have initially thought. So, what should businesses and team leaders be … [Read more...] about These management changes for neurodivergent employees make work more accessible for everyone
