Former U.S. attorney Chuck Rosenberg said Monday on MSNBC’s “Morning Joe” that former President Donald Trump should not be arrested and warned that, if he were, the fairness of the legal system could come into question. Trump announced Saturday he expects to be arrested by the Manhattan District Attorney’s office on Tuesday. The potential indictment relates to a years-long investigation into whether Trump paid hush money to former porn actress Stormy Daniels. In Oct. 2016, Trump’s former lawyer, Michael Cohen , sent $130,000 to Daniels so that she would not disclose her alleged affair with Trump, according to reporting from The Wall Street Journal . Cohen claims that the then-candidate reimbursed him for the payments, and authorities are still investigating whether Trump forged business records to hide the alleged payout. During the Monday morning segment on MSNBC, host Jonathan Lemire asked Rosenberg to walk viewers through what a possible Trump indictment would look … [Read more...] about MSNBC Guest Says Trump Should Not Be Arrested, Raises Question Of Fairness

Biden issues first veto, taking on new Republican House
By ZEKE MILLER and SEUNG MIN KIM (Associated Press) WASHINGTON (AP) — President Joe Biden issued the first veto of his presidency Monday in an early sign of shifting White House relations with the new Congress since Republicans took control of the House in January — a move that serves as a prelude to bigger battles with GOP lawmakers on government spending and the nation’s debt limit. Biden sought to kill a Republican-authored measure that would ban the government from considering environmental impacts or potential lawsuits when making investment decisions for people’s retirement plans. In a video released by the White House, Biden said he vetoed the measure because it “put at risk the retirement savings of individuals across the country.” His first veto represents a more confrontational approach at the midway of Biden’s term in office, as he faces a GOP-controlled House that is eager to undo parts of his policy legacy and investigate his administration and his family. … [Read more...] about Biden issues first veto, taking on new Republican House
Human Resources And Recruiters Are Getting Axed
Share to Twitter Share to Linkedin A year ago, a study conducted by Workvivo , an employee experience engagement app, highlighted the challenges human resources professionals had to contend with at the time. The study surveyed more than 520 HR professionals in the United States and the U.K. on burnout in the HR department. Ninety-eight percent of HR professionals self-reported that they were experiencing burnout, while 94% said they felt overwhelmed and 88% of respondents said they dreaded work. As a result of workplace transformations, HR navigated in-office, remote and hybrid work styles. They contended with the Great Resignation, sourcing, recruiting, onboarding and retaining workers. The war for talent took its toll, as HR professionals felt undervalued and under-resourced. Human resources professionals are, once again, experiencing stress and anxiety, but this time for a different reason. Instead of being exhausted from all the hiring, HR, … [Read more...] about Human Resources And Recruiters Are Getting Axed

Australian shares bounced 1.3 percent from Monday’s four-month trough and the Hang Seng opened 0.7 percent higher. Why 186 Other Banks Could Go The Way Of Silicon Valley Bank
Share to Twitter Share to Linkedin There were no new bank failures over the weekend. But the global banking system is not in the pink of health. There are two reasons for continued concern: A March 13 study by four economists reveals that 186 banks are at risk of “impairment” of $300 billion worth of insured deposits A March 19 New York Times report reveals that the Federal Reserve began warning Silicon Valley Bank (SVB) of financial risks in 2021 — over a year before it cratered — yet SVB management did nothing. What’s more Moody’s warned SVB’s management of an imminent downgrade about a month before it announced its emergency capital raise. Shares of First Republic Bank FRC are trading well below where they were after it received $30 billion in deposits from other banks on March 16. It seems only a matter of time before more rot in the banking system comes to light. (I have no financial interest in the securities mentioned in this … [Read more...] about Why 186 Other Banks Could Go The Way Of Silicon Valley Bank

Coinbase Is Considering Diversifying Its Regulatory Risk By Moving A Trading Unit Outside Of The U.S.
Share to Twitter Share to Linkedin Coinbase, a leading United States-based cryptocurrency exchange, is considering diversifying its risk by establishing a trading platform in another country, according to Bloomberg . The Securities and Exchange Commission’s Crypto Assets and Cyber Unit in the Division of Enforcement plans to grow its division to about 50 dedicated positions from 30 white-collar regulatory officials. The new headcount will be tasked with investigating, auditing, examining and potentially prosecuting securities law violations related to crypto-related products and trading activities. In the wake of the spectacular implosion of crypto exchange FTX, led by its now-disgraced founder Sam Bankman-Fried, followed by the shuttering of crypto-friendly Silvergate Bank and Signature Bank and somewhat adjacent Silicon Valley Bank, it looks like the SEC is planning to vigorously scrutinize this sector more closely. If digital asset companies … [Read more...] about Coinbase Is Considering Diversifying Its Regulatory Risk By Moving A Trading Unit Outside Of The U.S.
The Best Kept Secret In The Florida Keys
Share to Twitter Share to Linkedin An independent luxury hotel in Islamorada is thriving despite increased pressure to sell to big brands. For others, it’s a different story. Locals call him “the most expensive game in town.” He doesn’t actively advertise, because he doesn’t have to. Word of mouth, a string of famous swimsuit model photo shoots, and a lifetime of labor has kept his Moorings Village in Islamorada going since 1987. It has survived devastating hurricanes, financial crises and takeover bids. But owner Hubert Baudoin is a rare breed. Born and raised in Côte d’Ivoire, you’d sooner find him windsurfing in the Bahamas or blazing trails through the desert on a motorcycle before you’d find him hunched over a balance sheet. Like his safari-chasing father before him, he is something of an extremist. One who took root in the Keys, itself a land of extremes: tranquility and raging storms, poverty and wealth, alcoholism and detox retreats. … [Read more...] about The Best Kept Secret In The Florida Keys

Goldman Sachs (GS) expects there to be no rate hike at all. Global financial services group Nomura Holdings (NMR) boldly expects the Fed to CUT at its March 21-22 meeting — something that did not seem possible last week.
