Semiconductor Sustainability: COP27 And The Potential Of Chips To Save Energy

February 3, 2023 by www.forbes.com

Share to Twitter Share to Linkedin CEO of AIoT chip company XMOS , Mark Lippett is a technology leader with 25 years’ experience in startup, scale-up and blue-chip companies. The annual United Nations Climate Change Conference (COP) always brings technology under the sustainability spotlight. As the global climate issue becomes more pressing, a recent study by McKinsey is demanding widespread commitment to environmental protection targets to realize a 1.5°C trajectory by 2030. One focus in 2022 was semiconductors—given their environmentally taxing production and their application within devices that consume power throughout their lifetime. Of course, realizing more sustainable methods of chip manufacture and energy-aware device functionality can be a major advance in reducing overall emissions. The Semiconductor Climate Consortium (SCC) was formed in November last year, comprising 60 founding members who attended COP27 in Egypt to outline … [Read more...] about Semiconductor Sustainability: COP27 And The Potential Of Chips To Save Energy

Share to Twitter Share to Linkedin Nagaraju Bandaru is CTO for Mosaic , a leading financing platform for U.S. residential solar and energy-efficient home improvements. With the passing of the Inflation Reduction Act (IRA), the U.S. government is expecting a boom in clean energy jobs . And according to a recent survey conducted by Mosaic, 75% of American adults said they would consider a job in clean energy. While it’s true that sustainable infrastructure initiatives like the IRA are contributing to the growth of this industry, since becoming the CTO of clean energy fintech, I have experienced a much deeper appeal that clean tech jobs hold. This new perspective has changed the way I think about work, so I wanted to share the top five things I have learned since moving into clean tech. 1. Work With Joy According to the old cliche, if you do what you love, you’ll never work a day in your life. But I would take that a step further and … [Read more...] about Five Things I’ve Learned As A CTO Of A Clean Tech Company

10 investment trends to watch out for in 2023

February 6, 2023 by business.inquirer.net

In 2023, the headwinds from slowing growth and higher rates that have been plaguing investors will remain key market drivers. But while the cyclical outlook remains a major challenge, we are starting to see some silver linings. The United States Federal Reserve (Fed) policy tightening cycle is moving closer toward the end. US consumer price index inflation has fallen short of consensus estimates for two consecutive months in November and October, showing signs that inflation is peaking. While headline inflation and core goods prices are expected to fall this year, services inflation will stay sticky due to rising rents and wage growth. This means that the Fed will slow its rate increase and perhaps keep policy on hold for 2023. What could this spell for 2023? 1. End of the US dollar bull We believe the US dollar (USD) bull run has come to an end on the back of peaking US rates. Rate differentials between the USD and other G10 currencies are unlikely to widen further, and this … [Read more...] about 10 investment trends to watch out for in 2023

Digital Twin Technology Is Changing How Infrastructure Is Designed, Built And Operated

February 6, 2023 by www.forbes.com

Share to Twitter Share to Linkedin Infrastructure is the backbone of society. Without it, water wouldn't flow from the tap, supermarket shelves would be empty, and there would be no energy for running factories or the internet. “Infrastructure is what makes other things possible,” said Nicholas Cumins, Chief Operating Officer at Bentley Systems , in an exclusive interview with SAP Brand Voice on Forbes. "But infrastructure projects today are so complex we need new ways to manage them. We see digital twin technology as the solution - it's the future of engineering." The great advantage of digital twin technology is that infrastructure companies can first build digitally, to run simulations and optimizations, before building physically. Cumins enthusiastically cites the ITER tokamak , an experimental machine designed to harness the energy of fusion, as a great example. One of the most ambitious energy projects in the world today, scientists and … [Read more...] about Digital Twin Technology Is Changing How Infrastructure Is Designed, Built And Operated

How We Can Make Progress Fixing Some Of The World’s Biggest Challenges

February 6, 2023 by www.forbes.com

Share to Twitter Share to Linkedin To move the ball forward and truly make our world a better place to call home in 2023 and beyond, we must put our minds, power and money toward solving longstanding global problems and challenges left unresolved last year. Russia’s invasion of Ukraine has destabilized the global economy and created suffering for millions. Years after the first reported infections, Covid-19 continues to claim thousands of lives every month. And a looming debt crisis looms even larger for dozens of vulnerable economies. Here are five related areas where I’m confident the global community can make progress: Getting the African Union into the G20 There’s an old saying that you might be familiar with: “If you’re not at the table, you’re on the menu.” The G20 was created in 1999 and, in the years since, has helped address – with varying levels of success – a number of global challenges. But one group that has yet to see real … [Read more...] about How We Can Make Progress Fixing Some Of The World’s Biggest Challenges
