Diamond Disruptor: Meet The Nerdy King Of Bargain Bling
Though they get little respect from the industry’s old guard, technologist Martin Roscheisen’s lab-grown diamonds will soon flood the $85 billion fine jewelry market. They could also play a critical role in providing advanced chips for things like electric vehicles and quantum computing. I nside his rehabbed warehouse in South San Francisco with its line of glowing plasma reactors the size of minivans, Martin Roscheisen, CEO and cofounder of Diamond Foundry, unveils a 4-inch single-crystal diamond wafer. He says it was cut from a palm-size 423-carat rough stone, the biggest man-made diamond ever, large enough to fashion a set of crown jewels. But Roscheisen, 52, presents it as a preview of the age of quantum computing. “Every chip in the future will use diamond wafers,” he says. Be it for phones, laptops or cars, diamond will enable ever smaller high-energy electronics. Because the path to making diamond semiconductors passes through an expertise in forging gem-quality … [Read more...] about Diamond Disruptor: Meet The Nerdy King Of Bargain Bling
DOH notes slight rise in COVID-19 cases
MANILA, Philippines — The Department of Health (DOH) on Tuesday said it recorded a slight rise in COVID-19 infections nationwide but explained that it is “not significant” enough to implement restrictions in the country. In a press briefing on Tuesday, Health officer-in-charge Maria Rosario Vergeire said that the nationwide average daily infections rose to 207 from March 21 to 27 from the previous week’s 156. “So ‘pag tinignan natin tumaas nga pero kakaunti, and like we always say, nagmomonitor kami and nakikita natin na may konting pagtaas sa bawat lugar, but it is not significant for us to say na kailangan na ulit natin ng restrictions,” said Vergeire. (So when we look at the increase, it is still small, and like we always say, we are monitoring, and we see that there is a slight increase in each place, but it is not significant for us to say that we need restrictions again.) Further, Vergeire added that hospitals in the country continue to have manageable admissions, as well … [Read more...] about DOH notes slight rise in COVID-19 cases

In the movie Apollo 13 , three astronauts returning to Earth are unaware of their perilous reentry. Back in Houston at Mission Control, chief flight director Gene Kranz (played by Ed Harris) comments on the unfortunate events, saying: "Is there anything they can do about it?" No one dared to speak. "Then they don't need to know." If Kranz was in IT security, he'd probably have a thing or two to say about actionable information and how there's sometimes too little and many times far too much. In this article, I'll share how automation can help turn the right information into action, helping to defend against cyberattacks, mitigate risk, shore up compliance and improve productivity. How senators are dancing, or not, to the first Cha-cha under Marcos
INQUIRER FILE PHOTO MANILA, Philippines —Unfazed by the opposition’s repeated questioning of the urgency of Charter change (Cha-cha), the House of Representatives has overwhelmingly approved on final reading a bill seeking to implement the Resolution of Both Houses No. 6, calling for a constitutional convention (con-con) to ease economic restrictions imposed by the 1987 Constitution. So now, all eyes are on the Senate. A nod from the upper chamber will turn up the volume of the first Cha-cha beat under the administration of President Ferdinand Marcos Jr., who had earlier made clear that amending or revising the Constitution was not among the priorities of the government. But will senators follow the President’s lead and sit this one out, or will the upper chamber still dance the Cha-cha on the Senate floor?
