Is Basic Good Management The Key To Neurodiversity At Work?
Share to Twitter Share to Linkedin Neurodiversity at work is beginning to mature as a concept, but the practice is still far behind in terms of participation and success. Michael Bernick estimated in 2021 that as few as 1,500 people worldwide are participating in Autism at Work programs. Increasingly, businesses are seeking more holistic pathways which don’t rely on a single neurotype and result in integration, rather than segregation or assimilation. We’re taking the lessons learned from the early trailblazing projects and making them a normal part of business life, just as we aspire to racial equity, gender parity and LGBTQ+ inclusion. And we’re not there yet. The Devil Is In The Detail While broad projects with clear objectives make sense as a starting point, integration involves nuance. Identifying hidden barriers is messy, implicit and buried in social culture and normative mutual expectations. We need to explore the psychodynamics of cognitively … [Read more...] about Is Basic Good Management The Key To Neurodiversity At Work?
The man who helped create Singapore’s housing boom is getting worried
- A + A (June 23): Glossy, cosmopolitan Singapore is playing host to a very unusual balancing act. The city is one of Asia’s most expensive property markets — and at the same time, boasts one of the highest home ownership rates in the world. Liu Thai Ker, “the architect of modern Singapore,” is a big part of the reason why. As the chief architect of Singapore’s Housing Development Board, Liu was instrumental in establishing a housing model that has underpinned decades of astonishing economic growth. The 84-year-old Yale graduate personally oversaw the development of more than half a million public housing units. Now, almost 90% of the city’s residents own the well-designed, government-built apartments they live in. Since its independence in 1965, citizens have been able to buy these units at a steep discount, turning homeownership into a key way for Singaporeans to grow their wealth. But in the past few years — and especially since the pandemic, which plunged the … [Read more...] about The man who helped create Singapore’s housing boom is getting worried

Singapore opposition politicians won’t support GST hike plans
- A + A (June 23): Opposition politicians in Singapore won’t support the government’s plan to proceed with a goods and services tax (GST) hike amid inflationary concerns. The Workers’ Party on Wednesday (June 22) said it “cannot support” the decision to raise the consumption-based tax and will “continue to argue” against any proposed increase. The statement, posted on the party’s Facebook page, came after Deputy Prime Minister Lawrence Wong said the timing of the tiered tax hike won’t be revised despite concerns over mounting price pressures. The tax is set to rise to 8% from 7% in January next year and then to 9% in 2024. Inflation in the trade-reliant business hub has surged, leading the Monetary Authority of Singapore to tighten monetary policy three times in the past eight months. The core inflation print for May, to be announced on Thursday, is expected to climb further from a decade-high of 3.3% in April, according to a Bloomberg survey. Earlier this … [Read more...] about Singapore opposition politicians won’t support GST hike plans

My Say: Managing the net-zero transition
This article first appeared in Forum, The Edge Malaysia Weekly, on June 20, 2022 - June 26, 2022. What would it take to reach net zero? And what kind of economic and social adjustments might be required? - A + A Modernisation has taken Malaysia far, with the per capita GDP growing 46-fold to reach over RM46,000 in 2020 — which now positions the country as having the third highest GDP per capita in Asean. On a societal level, this has correlated in a rise in the average life expectancy from 60 years in 1960 to 76 years in 2020, and a sharp fall in the infant mortality rate from 68 per 1,000 live births to just seven in the same duration. Despite the socioeconomic benefits modernisation brings, it has played a key contributing role to the global issue of climate change, which ironically threatens the quality of life that this progress has achieved. Travellers landing at Changi report missing luggage following chaos at origin airports
SINGAPORE (The Straits Times/Asia News Network): An increasing number of travellers flying into Singapore are reporting lost or damaged luggage as a result of issues at their airport of departure amid a global manpower crunch, said Changi Airport's main ground handler Sats.
