Ranhill Utilities gets four-year PPA extension for [email protected] project
- A + A KUALA LUMPUR (Aug 10): Ranhill Utilities Bhd has obtained a four-year extension of a power purchase agreement (PPA) to develop a 50 MW large scale solar plant under large scale solar phase [email protected] ( [email protected] ) in Perak. In a bourse filing, the water supply company via its wholly-owned unit Ranhill Solar I Sdn Bhd (RSI) said it had received a notification letter from the Energy Commission (EC) on the four-year extension agreement. This confirms a report by The Edge on August 2, which stated that LSS4 project owners have their power purchase agreements (PPAs) extended by four years to 25 years from 21 previously, citing sources. The four-year extension for LSS4 winning bidders appears to be a concession the EC is making in consideration of how the viability of certain projects have been affected, following a 30%-50% jump in solar panel prices — compared to when they submitted their bids in 2020, the report said. Food inflation eases, but uncertain crops slow wider relief
- A + A CHICAGO (Aug 10): While the outlook for global crops is improving from the tumultuous weeks after Russia's attack on Ukraine, the threats of drought, flooding, and blistering heat are keeping supplies tight and prices elevated. Crop futures have retreated to pre-war levels, and the UN's monthly measure of food prices sank the most since 2008. That is offering some relief to consumers who have faced rampant food inflation since the start of the pandemic. Still, the war is putting more pressure on farmers from the US to India to replace crop losses and make up for the shortfall in supplies from Ukraine, normally a key shipper to poorer nations in the Middle East and Africa. How much they can provide is in question. Major producers like the US, Brazil, and Argentina have been facing yield issues over the last few years thanks to scorching heat, supporting prices at higher levels. Global production of corn and soybeans in 2021-2022 fell short of initial … [Read more...] about Food inflation eases, but uncertain crops slow wider relief
MAHB, Capital A discontinue all legal proceedings against each other
MAHB, Capital A cease legal proceedings - A + A KUALA LUMPUR (Aug 10): Malaysia Airports Holdings Bhd and Capital A Bhd have both decided to drop legal proceedings against each other that they initiated via their subsidiaries Malaysia Airports (Sepang) Sdn Bhd (MASSB) and AirAsia Aviation Group Ltd (AirAsia Group). The two groups have locked horns since the end of 2018, when AirAsia Group's Malaysian operations refused to collect the higher passenger service charges (formerly known as airport tax) from passengers that MAHB and MASSB demanded, after the rate was raised to RM73 per pssenger in 2018 from RM50. This escalated into a series of lawsuits between the groups, starting with three civil suits MAHB filed against AirAsia Group's units — AirAsia Bhd and AirAsia X Bhd — to claim for the unpaid PSC and late payment charges related to them. They obtained a summary judgement from the High Court in 2019, which the Court of Appeal upheld earlier this year. ICMR sounds outs monkeypox vaccine makers; Govt may use jabs for high-risk groups
FILE PHOTO: A woman holds a mock-up vial labeled "Monkeypox vaccine" and medical syringe in this illustration taken, May 25, 2022. REUTERS/Dado Ruvic/Illustration/File Photo The Indian Council of Medical Research has invited expressions of interest from private companies to develop vaccines against monkeypox as the global threat from the viral disease deepens. However, when the vaccine becomes available, it may be used only among high-risk individuals, who are yet to be clearly defined in the Indian context, according to officials in the government agency. Some doctors have suggested that all those under 45 years who have not been vaccinated against smallpox as children (India stopped smallpox vaccinations in 1978) may need it if the disease becomes widespread. But scientists in the government and outside say that may not be necessary. In a document issued on July 27, the ICMR said it is willing to make available monkeypox virus isolates for undertaking R&D, … [Read more...] about ICMR sounds outs monkeypox vaccine makers; Govt may use jabs for high-risk groups
Live And In-Person: Embark And Texas Law Enforcement Simulate The Real Thing
Share to Twitter Share to Linkedin Automated truck developer Embark has announced the completion of a public demonstration of its emergency vehicle interaction capability. Working closely with the Texas Department of Public Safety (“Texas DPS”) and the Travis County Sheriff’s Office (“TCSO”), Embark developed the capability for Embark-powered trucks to identify and stop for law enforcement vehicles in situations such as traffic stops, and built communication protocols and standard operating procedures between automated trucks and law enforcement officers. Embark calls this the first-ever public demonstration of an autonomous truck being pulled over by law enforcement and participating in a routine traffic stop on a public highway. Embark’s video of the capability in action can be viewed here . Apple’s CarPlay Acts More Like Brainiac To Auto Industry Than Trojan Horse
Share to Twitter Share to Linkedin A few, short weeks ago, Apple AAPL released its next generation of CarPlay, which usurps the entirety of the cockpit’s user interfaces including the speedometer, fuel gauges and, of course, center stack infotainment. CNBC subsequently released an article entitled “ Apple’s New Car Software Could Be a Trojan Horse Into the Automotive Industry ,” and quotes Apple’s Car Experience Manager, Emily Clark Schubert, as saying, “It’s a must-have feature when shopping for a new vehicle.” This assertion is backed by statistics she provided during the press presentation: 79% of U.S. buyers would only buy a vehicle with CarPlay and, in fact, 98% of new cars and trucks do support it. The question incumbent automotive manufacturers need to ask themselves is, “Is CNBC’s analogy of a Trojan Horse the right one?” The Odyssey’s Trojan Horse was a shell for Greek soldiers to enter Troy unobserved and then discarded without value. Albeit … [Read more...] about Apple’s CarPlay Acts More Like Brainiac To Auto Industry Than Trojan Horse
London Officials Launch Polio Booster Campaign For Children After Virus Detected In Sewage
Share to Twitter Share to Linkedin Topline Health officials in London said Wednesday the city will offer polio vaccine booster shots to children under 10, hoping to guard against a disease that can cause paralysis, two months after the virus was detected in sewage in London, and a month after New York confirmed its first polio case in almost a decade. Key Facts Children between the ages of 1 to 9 are eligible for the booster shot, according to the United Kingdom’s Health Security Agency, which said the additional vaccine will “ensure a high level of protection from paralysis and help reduce further spread of the virus,” though it added the risk of contracting polio is low. The news comes after vaccine-derived poliovirus was detected in wastewater from North and East London between February and June for the first time in decades, with the amount of virus as well as its genetic diversity suggesting there has been “some level of virus … [Read more...] about London Officials Launch Polio Booster Campaign For Children After Virus Detected In Sewage
