Although the broad U.S. stock market is trading near record highs, Goldman Sachs has found more than a dozen "beaten down stocks" that are trading at attractive discounts and thus are prime candidates for a rally, according to a recent research report. This group includes International Business Machines Corp. ( IBM ), Best Buy Co. Inc. ( BBY ), Morgan Stanley ( MS ), Flex Ltd., formerly Flextronics International, ( FLEX ), Conagra Brands Inc. ( CAG ), Carnival Corp. ( CCL ), Valero Energy Corp. ( VLO ), FedEx Corp. ( FDX ), Mosaic Co. ( MOS ), Archer-Daniels-Midland Co. ( ADM ), and Macy's Inc. ( M ). Goldman indicates that investors who bought these stocks based on low valuations have seen them outperform stocks with faster-growing earnings recently. "While fundamentals will also determine the long-term trajectory of stocks, we use signals from options and credit markets to identify 20 value stocks from among those where our analysts' estimates show … [Read more...] about Goldman Says These Dozen Stocks are Ready to Rally

Two men were arrested by the PDEA agents during the raid including a Chinese-Filipino. INQUIRER PHOTO/ JAM STA ROSA MANILA, Philippines — President-elect Ferdinand “Bongbong” Marcos Jr. on Thursday said outgoing President Rodrigo Duterte told him to continue his controversial war against illegal drugs. In the meetings, Duterte, according to Marcos Jr., said he can combat the country’s drug problem “in his own way” as long as it is continued. “Ang kanya, ang sinasabi niya, the one thing he was very assertive about is ituloy mo ‘yung anti-drug syndicate na sinimulan ko’,” Marcos said, quoting Duterte. Goalkeeper Syihan’s inclusion spot on, says Devan
PETALING JAYA: The inclusion of Syihan Hazmi in Malaysia’s training squad for the final round of the Asian Cup 2023 qualifiers may have surprised many but Negri Sembilan coach K. Devan believes the lanky shot-stopper’s selection was the right choice. National coach Kim Pan-gon has shortlisted Syihan, whose career has been revived by Devan, as one of the 29 players for centralised training that began yesterday. The 1.85m tall player, who was part of the national Under-23 squad that reached the quarter-finals of the 2018 AFC Under-23 Champion-ships, endured a 20-month ban for failing a doping test while competing in the tournament and returned to play for Petaling Jaya City in 2020. But lack of playing time saw Syihan moving to Negri where he has been having a brilliant season. “Looking at his physique, no Malaysian keeper who is tall and big possesses his ability. He is hard to beat in one-on-one situations and very good in shot-stopping and positioning. “He will only get … [Read more...] about Goalkeeper Syihan’s inclusion spot on, says Devan
This is how Florida educators are fighting back against ‘Don’t Say Gay’
Alex Quinto, a middle-school counselor in Pinellas, Florida, has lots of questions about what “Don’t Say Gay” means for his students. Quinto, identifies as LGBTQ, and was recently recognized as an educator of the year by GLSEN, and organization which works to create safe spaces for LGBTQ youth. Quinto is worried about how he will maintain a safe space for his students at school, when their identities are under attack. He, like many educators in Florida, is unclear about what the infamous “Don’t Say Gap” bill means in practice. Will the Gay Straight Alliance be able to keep its name? (Quinto plans to keep the GSA even if it means changing the name and paying for it out of his own pocket). Will this start to impact the Black Student Union or the Japanese Culture club? What about the LGBTQ books he keeps on hand for students since they aren’t at the library? More worryingly, what about student confidentiality? advertisement advertisement Still, Quinto … [Read more...] about This is how Florida educators are fighting back against ‘Don’t Say Gay’
Billionaire Investor Bill Ackman Says The Fed Isn’t Doing Its Job Fighting ‘Runaway’ Inflation
Share to Twitter Share to Linkedin Topline The Federal Reserve isn’t doing its job fighting runaway inflation—and unless the central bank tightens monetary policy and raises interest rates “more aggressively,” the ongoing stock market sell-off could well turn into a full “economic collapse,” warned hedge-fund billionaire Bill Ackman on Tuesday. Key Facts The Federal Reserve has lost credibility as it has failed to stop raging inflation, said billionaire investor Bill Ackman, founder and CEO of hedge fund Pershing Square Capital Management, in a series of tweets on Tuesday. “Markets are imploding because investors are not confident that the Federal Reserve will stop inflation,” and with consumer prices surging 8.3% on a yearly basis in April, inflation is way “out of control,” Ackman said. The only way he sees inflation moderating is with more decisive action from the Federal Reserve, and if that doesn’t happen, the result will be a … [Read more...] about Billionaire Investor Bill Ackman Says The Fed Isn’t Doing Its Job Fighting ‘Runaway’ Inflation
Chris Rock could host Oscars 2023 after ‘very unfortunate’ slap, TV exec says
Chris Rock may be hosting the annual Academy Awards next year, as an executive for ABC admitted he would like to have Rock back as a host after the comedian was slapped by actor Will Smith. The network’s President of Entertainment Craig Erwich stated that he considers the 2022 Oscars a “really successful year for the show” despite the controversy on Smith slapping Rock. He also expressed openness to the idea of having Rock host the show, as per his exclusive interview with Deadline on May 17. “My assessment of the Oscars was that it was really a successful year for the show. Obviously there was a lot of controversy, which overshadowed a lot of the positive things about the show, but I was really happy with the programme,” he was quoted as saying. “Even before that very unfortunate moment, the show started off up year over year, and we came back in a big way.” Erwich described the 2022 edition of the Oscars as the “biggest bounce back of any award show this season”. “If you … [Read more...] about Chris Rock could host Oscars 2023 after ‘very unfortunate’ slap, TV exec says
Pan-gon gives out good vibes, says Davies
PETALING JAYA: If first impression counts, new chief coach Kim Pan-gon has certainly hit it off with the national football squad. Defender Matt Davies is already exuding good vibes after just a few days of training under the South Korean. In fact, the Johor Darul Ta’zim (JDT) player feels that Pan-gon has endeared himself to the team who are preparing for the Asian Cup 2023 qualifying round next month. “He has belief in us. I think he has done very well in a short space of time and I don’t feel awkward,” he said after a training session at Wisma FAM. “Pan-gon emphasises on high intensity training which is what I’m used to at JDT, so I’m fine with that. “There is nothing to prove; if we do our best in training, then it is going to happen on the field,” added Davies. Davies’ JDT teammate Safawi Rasid said he was determined to assist Harimau Malaya to reprise their outstanding performance in 2019. “I feel playing on home ground is the best opportunity for me and the team to … [Read more...] about Pan-gon gives out good vibes, says Davies
‘No need for preachers,’ Chinese leader Xi Jinping tells UN human rights chief
(CNN) Chinese President Xi Jinping defended his country's human rights record on Wednesday, telling a visiting UN official there is "no need for 'preachers' to boss around other countries." Xi's remarks, made in a video call with the United Nations High Commissioner for Human Rights Michelle Bachelet , are likely to add to the controversy surrounding a trip that critics say risks becoming a propaganda tool for Beijing. Bachelet, who arrived in China on Monday for a six-day tour, is expected to visit the far-western region of Xinjiang, where the Chinese government faces accusations of mass internment, forced assimilation, forced labor and forced sterilization against Uyghur and other mostly Muslim minorities. Beijing has repeatedly denied the allegations. But the trip -- the first by a UN human rights chief to China since 2005 -- has been dogged by questions about Bachelet's access and freedom to speak with locals unsupervised, raising fears … [Read more...] about ‘No need for preachers,’ Chinese leader Xi Jinping tells UN human rights chief
A long read: Shane Warne and India were a match made in heaven
India and Indians had a special place in their hearts for Shane Warne. He was one of those cricketers whose mythology grew with time. “Hey! Rockstar…,” he yelled, not once but thrice. When Ravindra Jadeja finally turned around, his face lit up. Jadeja had seen his mentor, guru and idol Shane Warne walking around the boundary line, as India was closing out a win against South Africa at Cardiff during its triumphant campaign in the ICC Champions Trophy 2013. The match was still in progress as Warne joked with Jadeja. “Where’s my commission?” asked Warne. Jadeja broke into a smile, even while ensuring that he was keeping an eye on the proceedings. Warne was walking with fellow commentator and former Indian player Sanjay Manjrekar for the post-match TV commitments. A surprised Manjrekar asked Warne what that was about. “I always joke with him (Jadeja) that he has become such a big cricketer now, I deserve some commission for all the initial work we put in,” Warne said. … [Read more...] about A long read: Shane Warne and India were a match made in heaven
