Costco reported quarterly earnings of $2.36 per share on revenue of $44.41 billion. Online sales jumped more than 26 percent. The company said it will look at earlier reports because of a “material weakness” detected in its IT systems. What’s in a name? It’s Tronc no more. The Chicago media company says it will revert to Tribune Publishing Co. It adopted Tronc — short for Tribune online content — in 2016 to highlight its digital publishing efforts. But the name quickly became the subject of jokes. Tronc owns papers across the U.S. including the Chicago Tribune, the New York Daily News and the Baltimore Sun. Without the arena, the Sharks would never have brought the city its signature Chomp. Nightlife centers like San Pedro Square Market would probably not have taken root. It’s doubtful anyone would have begun a push to move San Jose City Hall back downtown, and you can forget about Google coming to the Diridon Station area.
