Kirkland Crawford Detroit Free Press Published 12:16 PM EDT May 13, 2019 Michigan State football's LJ Scott has signed with the Cleveland Browns as an undrafted free agent, the Browns announced Monday morning. Scott played four seasons at MSU and after originally deciding to take a medical redshirt and return for 2019 in East Lansing, Scott chose to leave for the pros after the Spartans' bowl game in late December. After not getting drafted, Scott agreed to join the Baltimore Ravens and apparently attended the team's rookie minicamp early this month. It's not clear when the Ravens released Scott. A Youngstown, Ohio, native, Scott is the ninth-leading rusher in MSU history with 2,855 yards. His biggest moment may have come as a freshman in the Big Ten title game, when his touchdown run culminated a 22-play drive to take the lead for good and reach the College Football Playoff. The four-year starter never eclipsed 1,000 yards during a season in his MSU career … [Read more...] about Ex-Michigan State RB LJ Scott signed by Cleveland Browns
In 2017, a reporter asked Theo Epstein about potentially transitioning from being a baseball president to an NFL general manager. The question was prompted by an MLB front-office executive, Paul DePodesta, who switched sports to take over as chief strategy officer for the Cleveland Browns. Epstein demurred. “I know how long you have to be around the game of baseball before you can develop the right kind of instincts and intuition,” the former Red Sox GM and current Chicago Cubs president replied. “I wouldn’t presume to be able to do that in another sport. I think that would take 10 years to get up to speed.” It seems DePodesta is ahead of schedule. Since his hiring in January of 2016, the Browns have seen a dive to rock-bottom — a 1-31 record over the 2016 and 2017 seasons — followed by a resurgence led by rookie quarterback Baker Mayfield. Mayfield set the first-year mark for touchdown passes (27) in the Browns best season since 2007. Seven … [Read more...] about How did a Moneyball analytics geek turn the Cleveland Browns into a contender?

The Cleveland Browns signed former Kansas City Chiefs running back Kareem Hunt to a one-year deal that could be worth more than $US1 million, per ESPN’s Ian Rapoport. Kansas City released Hunt in November after a video emerged of the second-year star kicking and shoving a woman in a Cleveland hotel in February 2018. The Browns faced scrutiny after giving Hunt a second chance in the NFL, but in an appearance on “Freddie and Fitzsimmons,” ESPN Cleveland radio’s Emmett Golden saidthat some Cleveland fans are already making excuses to justify the team’s decision. Shawn Windsor Detroit Free Press Published 6:09 PM EST Feb 11, 2019 It’s a business decision. On that part we probably all agree. Kareem Hunt is a gifted football player. That's why the Cleveland Browns signed him. The Browns think the running back will help them win. You don’t have to like it. And many of you probably don’t. I don’t blame you. The video showing Hunt shoving and kicking an acquaintance in a Cleveland hotel last February is unsettling. It’s hard to get past that. Just as it’s hard to get past the message this signing sent: that violence against women is forgivable; while kneeling during the National Anthem is not. [ Detroit Lions should sign Kareem Hunt? Check your morality at the door ] Countless football fans feel that way today. Because they understand Colin Kaepernick is still good enough to play in the NFL. Whatever you might feel about Kaepernick’s decision to … [Read more...] about Kareem Hunt to Cleveland Browns signals hitting women is OK
