Former US Military Pilot Admits He Spied For China, Sold US Secrets
A former U.S. Army helicopter pilot admitted to serving as a paid agent of the Chinese government, the Department of Justice (DOJ) announced Thursday. Shapour Moinian pleaded guilty to making false statements during security background checks and also admitted to accepting payment in exchange for passing aviation secrets obtained from his defense contractor employer to Chinese agents, the DOJ announcement stated . Moinian now faces 15 years in prison and a fine up to $500,000 for his crimes at his August 29 sentencing. “The Army is tasked with the great responsibility of protecting our nation from its adversaries and soldiers make incredible sacrifices in service to that responsibility,” Heather J. Hagan, U.S. Army spokeswoman, told The Daily Caller News Foundation. “When any soldier among our ranks, or former soldier, colludes to provide classified information to our foreign adversaries they betray the oaths they swore to their country and duty owed to their fellow soldiers.” … [Read more...] about Former US Military Pilot Admits He Spied For China, Sold US Secrets
10 years after its demise, a requiem for the Microsoft Zune, the little gadget that couldn’t
Though it’s largely been lost to the fog of history, the inaugural scandal of Barack Obama’s presidency centered not on civilian-drone casualties or the bailout of a slumping economy, but on the incoming commander-in-chief’s Microsoft Zune. advertisement advertisement The transgression came in late 2008, just after his election, while his transition team was busy readying the White House and the nation for the promise of hope, change, and cool. An alt-weekly reporter spotted an athleisured Obama on a treadmill in Philadelphia, the cord of his headphones running down to—of all things—a Zune. “OBAMA ZUNE-ACY,” squawked a New York Post headline . “The president-elect has been spotted listening to the least cool MP3 player on the market,” The Guardian declared. Multiple days of humiliating Zunegate coverage culminated in an advisor’s official ass-covering: An Obama spokesperson claimed that the president-elect typically … [Read more...] about 10 years after its demise, a requiem for the Microsoft Zune, the little gadget that couldn’t
Forget SFFD Being Upset At Cruise, The Future For Emergency Vehicles With Robocars & e-VTOL Is Super Positive
Share to Twitter Share to Linkedin Recently I reported on the San Francisco Fire dept. being upset at how a Cruise robotaxi coming the other direction couldn’t clear out of that lane when the fire engine was blocked by a stopped garbage truck. Discussion suggest there was concern over whether cars like the Cruise were ready for driving on a road with emergency vehicles. While there may be some small issues to resolve, emergency crews should take heart. A future is possible where they will be able to respond to emergencies far better than they can today, thanks to robocars and other future technologies like e-VTOL aircraft. Robotaxi developers build simulations of situations on the road, including encountering emergency vehicles. They do thousands of variations of those situations to try to make sure their car will do well. When it doesn’t, they fix it. They may not get everything, but they will constantly improve as they learn — and one of the ways they … [Read more...] about Forget SFFD Being Upset At Cruise, The Future For Emergency Vehicles With Robocars & e-VTOL Is Super Positive
‘Into the light’: Ukraine’s Zelenskiy looks to EU offer as Russian missiles rain down
- A + A KYIV/KHARKIV, Ukraine (June 22): Ukraine's President Volodymyr Zelenskiy on Wednesday hailed the European Union's expected offer of candidate status for his battle-weary nation as Russian forces pounded Ukraine's second biggest city Kharkiv and the eastern Donbas region. European leaders will formally set Ukraine on the long road to EU membership at a summit in Brussels on Thursday. Though mainly symbolic, the move will help lift national morale at a very difficult time in a four-month conflict that has killed thousands, displaced millions and flattened towns and cities. The war has also had a massive impact on the global economy and European security arrangements, driving up gas, oil and food prices, pushing the EU to reduce its heavy reliance on Russian energy and prompting Finland and Sweden to seek NATO membership. The EU will temporarily shift back to coal to cope with dwindling Russian gas flows without derailing longer term climate goals, an EU … [Read more...] about ‘Into the light’: Ukraine’s Zelenskiy looks to EU offer as Russian missiles rain down

Delivery Robots Are Bridging The Gap Arising From The Labor Shortage
Share to Twitter Share to Linkedin Ritukar Vijay is the CEO and co-founder of Ottonomy.io — a delivery robotics company. Food delivery has come a long way. Consumer food delivery dates back to the late 19th century when King Umberto and Queen Margherita had a pizza sent to their palace in Naples . Over 100 years later, consumers—regal or not—have become accustomed to getting food delivered to their homes and offices. But companies are struggling to ensure timely and economical deliveries amidst an unprecedented labor shortage. According to the U.S. Chamber of Commerce, 47 million U.S. workers quit their jobs in 2021 to find better-paying opportunities, to achieve a better work-life balance or to search for a corporate culture that is more amenable to their lifestyle. While the labor shortage is good news for workers, as it enables them to drive a better bargain for themselves, it has significant repercussions for companies whose … [Read more...] about Delivery Robots Are Bridging The Gap Arising From The Labor Shortage
Clashes, tear gas, even as Ecuador protesters win government concession
Indigenous demonstrators clash with police in the surroundings of the Comptroller General's Office headquarters, in Arbolito Park, Quito on June 23, 2022 QUITO - Police in Ecuador's capital fired tear gas Thursday to disperse Indigenous protesters who tried to storm congress on the 11th day of crippling demonstrations over fuel prices and living costs. Protesters had earlier won a concession from the Ecuadoran government when President Guillermo Lasso, isolating because of a Covid-19 infection, granted them access to a cultural center emblematic of the Indigenous struggle but commandeered by police over the weekend. However, later in the day, a group of Indigenous protesters, led by women, headed towards congress only to be pushed back by police as violent clashes broke out. Police fired tear gas while protesters threw rocks and fireworks. "This is a very bad sign, given we asked our base to march peacefully," said protest leader Leonidas Iza. The protests, which started … [Read more...] about Clashes, tear gas, even as Ecuador protesters win government concession
