PM calls for sustainable development of wood processing industry Last year, Vietnam earned 9.38 billion USD from exporting wood and non-wood forest products Prime Minister Nguyen Xuan Phuc on March 28 issued a Directive on measures to achieve rapid and sustainable development of the wood and non-wood forest product processing industry to serve exports. Wood and non-wood forest products are ranked the sixth most important export product of Vietnam and had average annual growth rate of 13 percent during 2010-2018. Last year, Vietnam earned 9.38 billion USD from exporting wood and non-wood forest products, up 15.9 percent against the previous year and making up almost a quarter of the agriculture sector’s export turnover. Vietnamese wood products have been sold to more than 120 nations and territories. The country is the fifth largest exporter of wood in the world and second in Asia, accounting for 6 percent of the world’s market share. Yeah1 plans to issue shares to raise charter capital Multi-channel media group Yeah1 has announced a plan to issue nearly 62.56 million bonus shares at the rate of 200 per cent in 2019. Each shareholder will receive two new shares for every share he or she already owns. Bonus shares will be available to trade on the stock market after the issuance date. The share issuance will help Yeah1 triple its charter capital to VND938 billion (US$41.2 million) from its current VND312 billion. The value of the deal is nearly VND625.6 billion and the share issuance funding is taken from the company’s share premium recorded in its audited financial report for 2018. As of September 30, Yeah1 had VND1.13 trillion in its share premium and VND73 billion in undistributed post-tax profit. In the first nine months of the year, Yeah1 recorded VND1.03 trillion in revenue, up 111 per cent over the same period last year, and VND131.2 billion in post-tax profit, up 239 per cent. Mexico to face fierce competition from Vietnam: Mexican economists Mexican economists have shared the view that once the Comprehensive and Progressive Agreement for Trans-Pacific Partnership (CPTPP) takes effect, Mexico will have to face fierce competition from Vietnam in many sectors, such as garments and textiles, leather and footwear, and electronic equipment. Arnulfo Gomez, a foreign trade expert, said Vietnam has successfully implemented a commercial strategy that helps improve the quality and competitiveness of its products on the international market by reducing spending on materials and applying technology in production. With such advantages, Vietnam has more capacity than Mexico to utilise opportunities generated by the CPTPP, he said.
