CCSA to consider extending Thailand tourist visa to 45 days
Tourists might soon be granted a visa which allows them to stay in Thailand for a maximum of 45 days. Currently, passport holders of certain countries are granted 30 day visa exemptions on arrival and others are granted visas on arrival with a maximum stay of 15 days. The Tourism Authority of Thailand (TAT) will propose the idea to the Centre for Covid-19 Situation Administration (CCSA) at the next CCSA meeting on August 19, according to TAT governor Yuthasak Supasorn. The proposed extension would extend both visa exemptions on arrival and visas on arrival (VOA) to 45 days. The new policy would be effective from the date of approval until December 31, 2022, said the TAT. For lists of countries eligible for visa exemptions click here . If the CCSA accepts the proposal, the TAT expects the average tourist to stay for an extra five days, spending 4,000 – 5,000 baht each per day, pumping a potential 20,000 extra into Thailand’s economy for every trip made to Thailand. TAT … [Read more...] about CCSA to consider extending Thailand tourist visa to 45 days
Thailand & China fighter jets take off on Falcon Strike drills
The Royal Thai Air Force yesterday reported it will resume a fighter jets exercise with China this weekend. The Falcon Strike exercise between Thailand and China was an annual event until it was postponed in 2020 because of the Covid-19 pandemic. The drill has taken place four times since 2015 and takes flight once again on Sunday, August 14. It will run for 11 days at a military base in northeastern Udon Thani. To conspiracy theorists, it may appear to be a somewhat belligerent or symbolic act that Thailand and China are using the Udon Thani base, as it was used by US forces during the Vietnam War. The Chinese, of course, backed the North Vietnamese Communists in the Vietnam War while the US supported South Vietnam. But the Falcon Strike exercise certainly could be viewed as politically insensitive, given it comes only a week after China embarked on a series of military exercises around the Taiwan Strait. It is believed China was flexing its military muscle following US House … [Read more...] about Thailand & China fighter jets take off on Falcon Strike drills

ASEAN marks 55th year while RI gears up for chairmanship
Yvette Tanamal (The Jakarta Post) PREMIUM Jakarta ● Wed, August 10 2022 ASEAN celebrated its 55th anniversary on Monday in Cambodia’s capital, Phnom Penh, amid “a time of great upheaval” as Indonesia braces itself for its upcoming role as the group’s chairman next year. The 10-nation bloc, established in 1967 in Bangkok, has recently had its share of troubles with the ongoing superpower rivalry and the crisis in Myanmar. Just last week at its Foreign Ministers’ Meeting (AMM), the group had to resort to an uncharacteristic strategy of calibrating warnings to Naypyidaw that it was open to making moves without Myanmar’s vote if no progress vis-a-vis the Five-Point Consensus peace initiative has been made by November. Heated internal debates among the nations concerning the idea of suspending the military-led country from future conferences were also reported to have taken place. In his opening remarks at the commencement of the AMM, Prime Minister Hun Sen of … [Read more...] about ASEAN marks 55th year while RI gears up for chairmanship
