The years FY21 and FY22 were characterised by deep rate cuts and copious liquidity in order to reduce the impact of the pandemic on the economy. On the back of 115 basis point cut in the policy repo rate by the Reserve Bank of India (RBI), the weighted average lending rate (WALR) had declined 132 bps by the end of FY22. But this cut didn’t trickle down evenly for all loan products. Indeed, banks have been careful in pricing risk during the pandemic even though low interest rates and forbearance were motivation enough to push loans. The WALR for corporate loans fell by 152 bps while that for retail loans slipped 115 bps. As the above chart shows, within retail the pricing difference was even wider. Housing loans, the safest loan category, witnessed the sharpest fall in interest rates during pandemic years. The WALR for home loans dropped by 128 bps, more than the overall retail loan book of banks. Rates on credit cards, on the other hand, rose by roughly 40 bps. PBOC to keep policy supportive for China economy, Governor says
- A + A (June 27): The People’s Bank of China pledged to maintain a supportive monetary policy to aid the economy’s recovery from Covid outbreaks and lockdowns and other stresses. “The monetary policy will continue to be accommodative to support economic recovery in aggregate sense,” Governor Yi Gang said in an interview with state broadcaster China Global Television Network , according to a transcript released by the central bank on Monday. The central bank’s “high priorities” are to maintain stable prices and maximize employment, Yi said. It will also continue to focus on structural policies such as those supporting small businesses and green projects, he said. China’s “real interest rate is pretty low” after taking inflation into account, Yi said. The inflation outlook is stable, he said, with consumer prices rising 2.1% in May and producer prices increasing 6.4%. The PBOC has taken a modest approach to easing this year, as weak borrowing demand in the face … [Read more...] about PBOC to keep policy supportive for China economy, Governor says
How to Get a Higher Royalty Rate For Your Invention
Have an idea for a new product? Early on, spend some time determining what your strategy for bringing it to market will be. Is venturing required, or can you license it instead Personally, after venturing uniquely shaped guitar picks geared towards fans and licensing many of my ideas , I'd choose the latter every time. That's because running a small business, even an ultimately successful one, stressed me out. Who wants to worry about cash flow? I much preferred the freedom to keep creating that licensing affords. Daily Voice | Chances of a bear market higher than that of an economic recession: Vivek Sharma of Estee Advisors
Vivek Sharma of Gulaq Inflation has definitely not peaked out. We might remain in a high inflation regime for much longer, feels Vivek Sharma, Director (Strategy) and Head of Investments at Gulaq, a part of Estee Advisors. Sharma said the point of concern is the possibility of a hard landing of US economy because of the rising interest rates. Higher rates in-turn lead to FIIs pulling out money invested in India at increasing pace. This will have higher impact on stock markets than on economy. So the chances of a bear market are higher than that of a recession, said in an interview to Moneycontrol. Edited excerpts: Do you foresee a recession going ahead given the elevated oil prices? Elevated oil prices is definitely a cause of concern for Indian economy. Oil comprises about 20 percent of our import bill, so this directly impacts our current account deficit and puts pressure on rupee. Close But the bigger concern is the possibility of a hard landing of US … [Read more...] about Daily Voice | Chances of a bear market higher than that of an economic recession: Vivek Sharma of Estee Advisors
Food inflation relief within sight as crops and crude pull back
- A + A (June 28): Runaway food inflation may be tamed soon — at least temporarily — as farm commodities tumble after a surge that pushed up prices of everything from bread to chicken wings. Four months after Russia’s invasion of Ukraine upended trade flows and sent futures soaring, fear of grain shortages is giving way to optimism that key producers will reap harvests large enough to help replenish war-pinched reserves. That’s critical for the wheat needed to feed the world; the corn to nourish hogs, chicken and cattle; and the oilseeds to process food. “Supply may not be as impaired as we think because other areas will compensate for any losses from Ukraine, and it is happening across the board,” said Marc Ostwald, a global strategist at ADM Investor Services in London. Australia, one of the biggest wheat exporters, is forecast to produce another huge crop this year, while Brazil’s biggest-growing area has so much corn it’s piling up outside bins. Nervousness … [Read more...] about Food inflation relief within sight as crops and crude pull back
U.S. stocks fall after recent big gains; oil, yields rise
- A + A NEW YORK (June 28): U.S. stocks ended a volatile trading session slightly lower on Monday after posting sharp gains the week before, while oil prices and Treasury yields rose. Oil climbed following last week's rout, as the Group of Seven nations promised to tighten the squeeze on Russia's finances with new sanctions that include a plan to cap the price of Russian oil. Investors have been hoping oil's slide from three-month peaks hit earlier in June could ease overall inflation concerns and allow the U.S. Federal Reserve to tighten policy less aggressively than initially feared. Still, data on Monday showed new orders for U.S.-made capital goods and shipments increased solidly in May, pointing to sustained strength in business spending on equipment in the second quarter. Stocks moved between gains and losses during the session on Wall Street, with big growth shares leading the way down. "It's not shocking given we're in a bear market that last week was a … [Read more...] about U.S. stocks fall after recent big gains; oil, yields rise

The 5 Biggest Red Flags of a Toxic Culture, According to a Study of More Than 1 Million Glassdoor Reviews
We all know that working for a company with a toxic culture is unpleasant and stressful. But research on the impacts of toxic workplaces is still surprisingly grim. One study found a toxic workplace triples your risk of depression . Research out of Harvard shows that firing a toxic jerk adds more than twice as much to a company's bottom line as hiring a superstar. Another recent study showed a toxic workplace was the single biggest predictor of whether employees would join the Great Resignation and head for the door. All of which should make it crystal clear that you don't want to lead (or work for) a company with a toxic culture. But that begs a simple but important question. What exactly makes a culture toxic? We all have vague ideas about what kind of behavior qualifies as toxic, but recently a team out of MIT set out to find a more scientific answer to this question. (They are the same group of researchers behind the study I mentioned above about toxic culture … [Read more...] about The 5 Biggest Red Flags of a Toxic Culture, According to a Study of More Than 1 Million Glassdoor Reviews
