Thailand to Reduce the Standard Safety Level of Air Pollution to 37.5 Microns from 50 Microns

February 3, 2023 by www.chiangraitimes.com

(CTN News) – Beginning on June 1, 2023, Thailand will alter its minimum acceptable level of air pollution . To assist the Pollution Control Department in managing air pollution more effectively, the safety limit will be changed from 50 microns to 37.5 microns. The Director-General of the Pollution Control Department, Pinsak Suraswadi, claims that the PCD is now carrying out the Level 3 plan. According to the proposal, the department must ask companies for their participation by enabling employees to work from home. Additionally, it finds that the agency must urge drivers to take public transit whenever feasible instead of driving as little as possible. The proposal also requires building sites to scale down on operations that release dust into the sky, according to Thai PBS World . In addition, the proposal forbade open rubbish burning. The “Burn Check” program, according to Pinsak, enables provincial governments to regulate the burning of agricultural … [Read more...] about Thailand to Reduce the Standard Safety Level of Air Pollution to 37.5 Microns from 50 Microns

Bangkok is third most polluted city in the world

February 2, 2023 by thethaiger.com

Photo via Twitter @MsLisaWilliams Bangkok was ranked the third worst city in the world for air pollution after PM2.5 dust reached unhealthy levels. A heavy blanket of smog encased the capital’s skyscrapers as nationwide agricultural burning and forest fires pumped tiny dust particulates into the air, exacerbated by the city’s chockablock traffic and stone-dry weather. At 10am, Bangkok’s air quality index (AQI) measured 198, according to IQAir, a technology partner of the UN Environmental Programme. AQI readings above 100 are considered “unhealthy” (red), above 200 are considered “very unhealthy” (purple) and beyond 300 are considered “hazardous.” Related news Thai celebrities duped out of 20 million baht in online toy scam, 300 victims speak out 12 hours ago Thai passport worth less than Cambodian | Thailand News Today 12 hours ago Bangkok’s thick levels of dust were only beaten by Mumbai in India at 207 and Lahore in … [Read more...] about Bangkok is third most polluted city in the world

Thailand is set to adjust its standard safety level of air pollution from June 1, 2023. The adjustment will see the safety level change from 50 microns to 37.5 microns as part of a move to help the Pollution Control Department manage air pollution more efficiently. Pollution Control Department Director-General, Pinsak Suraswadi, says currently the PCD has implemented its Level 3 plan. The plan deems that the department must seek cooperation from employers by allowing their staff to work from home. It also deems that the department must request that motorists reduce their use of private cars, and instead, seek public transportation if possible. According to Thai PBS World , the plan also mandates that construction sites reduce activities that push dust into the atmosphere. Furthermore, the plan prohibited burning waste in the open. Pinsak says that the “Burn Check” application allows provincial administrations to control the burning of farm waste.
