Share to Twitter Share to Linkedin In November, I wrote that fossil fuel subsidies worth $700 billion are stalling the energy transition. Many readers emailed me asking for specific examples of these subsidies. Others pointed out that $700 billion is a low estimate because it doesn’t account for the related health and environmental costs that are borne by the general public. Because you asked, let’s examine in more detail how your tax dollars give oil, gas and coal an unfair edge over clean energy. In addition, let’s consider why these subsidies persist despite their astronomical cost to taxpayers and victims of climate change. What Counts as a Subsidy? To recap, my team and I found that the 1,801 largest publicly traded oil, gas and coal companies worldwide earned net profits worth $500 billion USD in 2013 yet received direct subsidies worth $700 billion. This is a moderate estimate. On the low end of the scale is the latest estimate from the … [Read more...] about Yes, Fossil Fuel Subsidies Are Real, Destructive And Protected By Lobbying

Roman Reigns, Cody Rhodes Reportedly Among ‘Hot’ WWE Merchandise Sellers
Share to Twitter Share to Linkedin Roman Reigns and Cody Rhodes will be main-eventing WWE WrestleMania 39 for good reason. According to Dave Meltzer of Wrestling Observer Radio (h/t WrestlingNews.co ), the two stars—who are slated to headline WWE’s flagship pay-per-view in an Undisputed Universal Championship match—are currently “hot” merchandise sellers, and their popularity is expected to result in strong merchandise sales for WWE as a whole at the upcoming two-night WrestleMania event. “I presume that it will do amazing merchandise numbers because that’s the other thing that’s going on right now is the merchandise numbers are really strong. A lot of the big characters are very, over when it comes to selling merchandise right now,” said Meltzer. “Bray Wyatt, Roman Reigns, Cody Rhodes, I’m sure Sami Zayn. They’re hot. That’s the deal. Five Key Criteria To Identify The Right Data And Analytics Project
Share to Twitter Share to Linkedin Founder and Managing Principal of DBP Institute . I help companies transform technology and data into a valuable business asset. Today, organizations of all types are looking at leveraging data and analytics (D&A) for improved business performance and outcomes. D&A can provide EBITDA (Earnings before interest, taxes, depreciation and amortization) increases of up to 25% according to a McKinsey report. Nine of the top ten innovative companies globally, as rated by the Boston Consulting Group (BCG), are data firms. However, despite being data-rich and having high data analytics ambitions, the BCG report also notes many companies are poor in delivering business value from D&A projects and only a few achieve those ambitions. Statistically, only 20% of the D&A solutions deliver business outcomes and 87 percent of D&A projects never make it to production. The reasons for the poor dismal metrics on … [Read more...] about Five Key Criteria To Identify The Right Data And Analytics Project
Vegan Pure Grit BBQ Opens In New York City After A Four-Year Delay
Share to Twitter Share to Linkedin When founder Kerry Fitzmaurice was preparing to open Pure Grit BBQ, her plant-based BBQ and fast-casual eatery in New York City in the spring of 2019, the proliferation of COVID stopped her in her tracks and delayed its debut. After she spent a year researching the menu, conducting market research, and refining her cooking and smoking expertise, she decided to maintain her momentum by bottling its sauces and rubs to get it off the ground. She turned to Hell’s Kitchen Hot Sauce, a bottler, to help produce it. The sauces are still on sale at the restaurant and produce about 10% of its overall revenue. That launch boosted Pure Grit BBQ’s brand name after articles appeared in The New York Times, Harpers Bazaar and the lifestyle company GOOP. Fitzmaurice raised the capital to open its retail location in May 17, 2023 from one main friend from elementary school in Greenwich, Ct and tapping her own funds. She also brought … [Read more...] about Vegan Pure Grit BBQ Opens In New York City After A Four-Year Delay

Biden Officials Just Can’t Keep Their Hands Off Your Gas Stoves
Share to Twitter Share to Linkedin Asked recently by an Arizona television news anchor to comment on the continuing controversy surrounding the Biden administration efforts to restrict or ban the use of gas stoves in the home, Energy Secretary Jennifer Granholm said , “That is so ridiculous, that story. Because, it sounds like government’s coming in to take your stuff. That is so not true. That is just not true.” In almost her next breath, though, Granholm went on to perpetuate the supposed science connecting the use of gas stoves to childhood asthma, a claim that simply has not been established. That was on January 23. Just nine days later, on February 1, Granholm’s Department of Energy beat the Consumer Products Safety Commission (CPSC) to the regulatory punch, proposing a new regulation governing home energy consumption, which seeks to diminish the use of, you guessed it, gas stoves in the home. Thus we see the Biden administration just cannot … [Read more...] about Biden Officials Just Can’t Keep Their Hands Off Your Gas Stoves
EU’s Ban On Russian Diesel To Stoke Turmoil In Global Fuel Markets
Share to Twitter Share to Linkedin Gasoline prices are rising again – up more than 30 cents a gallon in the past month and around 15 cents in the last two weeks alone. Motorists should brace for more pain. One reason is that the global market for refined products is about to be upended by the latest European Union (EU) sanctions on Russia’s petroleum industry. On February 5, the EU will ban imports of Russian refined products like diesel, jet fuel, gasoline, and heating oil. While global oil markets have recently handled a similar ban on Russian crude imports quite well, these product sanctions could be far more disruptive. Markets for refined fuels are much more complex than for crude, with refineries configured to process certain types of feedstock crudes and to manufacture varying slates of products, depending on regional demand patterns. The issue for Europe is that it relies on Russia for about 40 percent of its refined product imports and … [Read more...] about EU’s Ban On Russian Diesel To Stoke Turmoil In Global Fuel Markets
