The Honda Pilot has always been a strong choice for a midsize three-row crossover SUV. But Kia has recently introduced an all-new model known as the Telluride that it hopes will attract shoppers with its bold styling and value. The basics are similar. Both the Pilot and the Telluride roughly occupy the same amount of garage space, seat up to eight people, and come with standard V6 engines. But there are significant differences. Edmunds compares them to find out if the new challenger has what it takes to upset the status quo. SEATING AND CARGO SPACE Most Pilot and Telluride models have a middle-row bench seat and can seat eight, though the priciest models have captain's chairs and can seat seven. Both are impressively roomy, but the Kia, partially because of its slightly larger windows, comes across as the airier SUV. The Telluride's interior is also made from richer materials and is a little more interesting to look at. It has a longer wheelbase (the distance between the front and rear … [Read more...] about Edmunds compares the Kia Telluride and Honda Pilot
Challenging the status quo apple
Tapping into a dissatisfaction with social media, cosmetics firm Lush recently announced that it would move away from it, justifying its decision by drawing attention to the financial and ethical cost of using social media. The move marks Lush as the latest brand to take a new approach online. It’s a global brand, whose environmentally-conscious products appeal to an ethically-aware consumer. Its “switching up social” campaign fits with its independently-minded image and targets consumers who identify with Lush’s fashionably rebellious character. So Lush’s anti-social media decision fits its brand, its target audience, and taps into a broader community of people fed up with social media. However, Lush’s strategy is not a one-size-fits-all solution. Budget pub chain Wetherspoons also rejected social media in April last year. With its social channels populated by unhappy clients (found via #wetherspoons), the brand tried to distance itself from this … [Read more...] about Why did Lush, Apple and Wetherspoons quit Twitter?
In February 2019, Tyler Blevins, aka Ninja, the master of Fortnite, scored an endorsement deal so lucrative it might have made Drake — the rap star who occasionally plays the game with Ninja — jealous. Electronic Arts (EA) paid Ninja a reported US$1 million to play and promote its new game, Apex Legends, according to Reuters. Ninja invited his 13 million followers on Twitch, the game-streaming site owned by Amazon, to watch him play the new “battle royale” game. Thanks to the promotional efforts of Ninja and other influencers, Apex Legends “notched 10 million signups in the first three days,” Reuters reported, and EA’s stock rose 16 percent, adding about $4 billion in market capitalization. Within a month, some 50 million people had signed up for Apex Legends. (For comparison’s sake, the phenomenon Fortnite has 200 million users, which it built up over two years.) The sums paid to Blevins and other influencers, and the marketing … [Read more...] about Making connections with the new digital consumer
If the boss talks, it’s not countedLAST WEEK, we talked about how failed experiments can result into a successful strategy with a simple approach – repurposing. But when we talk about buzzwords and theories, how will you repurpose or paraphrase something so it creates greater impact to your audience? An excellent example comes from Connecticut-based Rudy Go who was here on a short visit to partner with me in our public workshop on Hoshin Kanri (strategic planning through waste elimination). Rudy, who is often called sensei (teacher) by his clients in Japan and the United States says we can explain employee empowerment and engagement in one simple statement: “If the answer comes from the boss, then it’s not counted.” When explaining that powerful one-liner, Rudy refers to “respect for people” and “continuous improvement” being the two essential elements of The Toyota Way. Unfortunately, they are often ignored by some people managers … [Read more...] about If the boss talks, it’s not counted
