(Reuters) - British distribution and logistics provider Connect Group has agreed a new 5-year distribution contract with Daily Mirror publisher Reach Plc, it said on Monday, guaranteeing 220 million pounds in annual revenues. The contract, which will run from October 2019 through to September 2024, covers all distribution territories of Connect's Smith News network, the company said. Reach, previously called Trinity Mirror, publishes titles including Sunday Mirror, People, Daily Express, Daily Star, Sunday Express and Daily Star Sunday. Daily Mirror sends journalists out across Britain to report on homelessness for Mirror on the Street campaign
The Daily Mirror sent journalists and photographers across Britain this week to reveal the scale of rough sleeping in Britain and “give voice to those who have fallen on hard times”. Eighteen writers and 12 photographers from the news, features, sports and comment desks travelled across the country to report on rising homelessness in towns and cities for the Mirror On The Street campaign. The paper launched the campaign in print and digital on Monday, with journalists on the ground tweeting snapshots of their coverage ahead of the Mirror’s “Britain’s shame” splash today, along with six inside pages.The coverage includes more than 15 first-hand accounts from rough sleepers and people who used to be homeless, including Crystal Palace footballer Mamadou Sakho.The Mirror on the Street has been led by head of campaigns Jason Beattie. Daily Mirror court reporter Adrian Shaw who ‘never filed bad copy’ remembered after sudden death aged 65
Fleet Street has paid tribute to Adrian Shaw, a Daily Mirror court reporter of more than 20 years, after his sudden death aged 65. A reporter for the Mirror from 1994, Shaw covered the trials of serial killer Harold Shipman, child murderer Ian Huntley and Gary Glitter. Shaw was an Evening Standard journalist before moving to the Mirror.He was the father of two children, Jenny and Alex, and the husband of Chrissie.His son and ESPN journalist Alex Shaw told Press Gazette: “He was my best friend. All I ever wanted to do was follow in his footsteps and that’s why I became a journalist. “Having worked on the Sunday People, I know few people get the tag ‘Mirrorman’ and I’m so proud that he did.” Speaking to the Mirror, former Daily Mirror head of news Eugene Duffy said Shaw “never ever filed a bad piece of copy”. Guardian’s Pippa Crerar joining Daily Mirror as political editor replacing Andrew Gregory who moves to Sunday Times
Guardian deputy political editor Pippa Crerar is joining the Daily Mirror as political editor from December. She replaces Andrew Gregory, who takes up the role of Sunday Times health editor in November. He joined the Mirror in 2009 as a trainee and was appointed political editor in 2017 after nearly three years as health editor. Daily Mirror editor Alison Phillips said: “We are absolutely delighted Pippa is joining our brilliant political team in such a key role. I know she will be a fantastic ambassador for the Mirror brand.” Crerar tweeted about the move, saying: “It feels particularly special as my first ever Fleet Street job back in 2000 was at the Daily Mirror. Loved the paper then, love it now. Judge will hear ex-police chief’s libel suit against claim he grabbed Daily Mirror journalist’s phone records
A former police chief’s libel action against the Daily Mirror over allegations that he was involved in the illegal interception of a reporter’s phone records will proceed to a full trial, the High Court has ruled. Sean Price, ex-chief constable of Cleveland Police, claims three articles published in December 2016 falsely alleged that, while in office, he was “party to” the interception of journalist Jeremy Armstrong’s phone records.
