NHL Seattle will subsidize these transit passes—the exact investment in transit will change over time, Johnson says, as light rail and bus service expands, and as the team learns more about where its transit-riding fans are traveling from. The policy will make it the third U.S. sports team to do so, behind the San Francisco Golden State Warriors and the Phoenix Suns. (Both those initiatives were spearheaded by Rick Welts, former Suns president and CEO and current Warriors president and COO.) Because NHL Seattle is a new venture, transit could be considered from the very start, but Johnson hopes others will give it more consideration as well. Seattle Rep, the city’s repertory theater, which is located in the same 74-acre campus as the NHL arena (along with other attractions like the Space Needle, Museum of Pop Culture, and more), will include a few free monorail tickets per early-bird season ticket package, as an incentive for theatergoers to renew their subscriptions early. … [Read more...] about Seattle’s new NHL team will give fans free public transit to get to games

Policy may also push companies to change. Portland, Oregon, enacted a new tax in 2017 on companies that pay CEOs more than 100 times than median workers; it’s not clear yet what the impact has been. Federally, the proposed “Tax Excessive CEO Pay Act” also calls for linking corporate taxes to high CEO pay. Bernie Sanders has proposed similar legislation. “It is time to send a message to corporate America: If you do not end your greed and corruption, we will end it for you,” he said in a statement. … [Read more...] about Meet the 10 most overpaid CEOs in the U.S.

When was the last time a budget fulfilled investor aspirations and made them gung-ho about the government’s ability to deliver big? There have been only two instances that I can readily recall – the budgets of 1991 and 1997. Interestingly, these budgets failed to really deliver big for the stock market after the initial euphoria died down. In fact, the economy was in no position to quickly capitalise on these budgets. The subsequent actions of the government were also weak. Policy follow-up simply did not live up to the hype and the government just didn’t translate the promise into action within reasonable time. … [Read more...] about Fulfilling budget promises more important than pleasing the markets
