REUTERS FILE PHOTO BANGKOK — Nearly two-thirds of people in Thailand want Prime Minister Prayuth Chan-ocha to leave office this month, according to an opinion poll, which comes amid growing debate about how long the 2014 coup architect should stay in power. Thailand’s opposition plans to petition the constitutional court to decide whether Prayuth’s time as prime minister in the junta counts towards his tenure as premier, which is limited to eight years. The Aug. 2-4 survey of 1,312 people by the National Institute of Development Administration (NIDA) found 64% wanted Prayuth to leave office on Aug. 23, exactly eight years after he took the post of prime minister in what was then a military government. Army conscript dies a day after receiving second Covid-19 vaccine shot
A 23 year old army conscript died earlier this week after receiving a second Covid-19 vaccine shot, according to the Bangkok Post. According to the report, Khanti Anantasiri, who had no underlying health conditions, died at home in Ratchaburi province on Tuesday afternoon, a day after receiving the AstraZeneca vaccine. He had earlier received the Sinovac vaccine. Khanti had complained of itchiness and fever around 7 hours after receiving the vaccination, taking two pills to bring his temperature down, his father said. The following afternoon, his mother checked in on him, finding that his condition had degenerated significantly, with his lips turning blue and dark spots appearing on his chest. Khanti’s father said his son died around 24 hours after receiving the vaccine, stating he believed his death was a result of the vaccination. Japanese technology investment firm SoftBank Group Corp. lost more than $23 billion dollars in the second quarter of 2022, according to The Wall Street Journal. The massive losses have already led to a pivot in investment strategy, with subsidiary Vision Fund approving only $600 million in new investments during the first quarter, $20 billion less than the same time last year, according to Reuters .
