(CTN News) – Bangkok Metropolitan Administration (BMA) is considering reactivating community isolation facilities in 50 districts to isolate COVID-19 patients living in slum areas from over 60s, people suffering from underlying diseases, and pregnant women, as new infections hit 2,000 per day in the capital alone. The Bangkok Governor Chadchart Sittipunt said Friday (Friday) that because of the crowded conditions in densely populated areas, this group is particularly vulnerable if they catch COVID-19. Additionally, the governor said the BMA is working with the Public Health Ministry to procure Molnupiravir tablets at a special price for its patients. Last year, several community isolation facilities and field hospitals were opened in Bangkok and elsewhere to accommodate patients with mild symptoms . PM orders clampdown on black market Favipiravir trade following arrests
PM Prayut Chan-o-cha has ordered a crackdown on the illegal trade of the Favipiravir antiviral drug, used to treat Covid-19, following the seizure of hundreds of boxes destined for the online black market earlier this week. Police arrested nine suspects on Tuesday, carrying out coordinated raids across Bangkok, Saraburi, Pathum Thani and Nonthaburi, with a hospital manager alleged to have illegally supplied the drugs. Following the seizure, authorities have firmly emphasised the drug cannot be sold directly to consumers. Government spokesman Thanakorn Wangboonkongchana said illegal trade not only had the potential to deprive patients of proper treatment, but may even pose a risk of more infections, Nation Thailand reported. Police had recovered 390 boxes, each containing 100 Favipiravir pills, under the trademark Favir made by the Government Pharmaceutical Organisation. Tornado Cash, a type of anonymizing virtual currency exchange designed to preserve the privacy of blockchain users, has laundered more than US$7 billion in virtual currency, a senior Treasury official said in a press conference. North Korea’s Lazarus Group has laundered US$450 million through Tornado Cash, according to the official. It was also used to launder almost US$100 million in the June hack of the Harmony Bridge, a platform that allows crypto trading between blockchains, the official said.
