CBI apprehends Joint Drug Controller in alleged Rs 4 lakh bribery case

Representative image The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) on June 20 apprehended Joint Drug Controller (JDC) of CDSCO S Eswara Reddy for allegedly taking a Rs 4 lakh bribe to waive the Phase III trial of ‘Insulin Aspart’ Injection.2 CDSCO stands for Central Drugs Standard Control Organisation. Searches were conducted at 11 places located in Delhi, Noida, Gurugram, Patna, and Bengaluru which led to the recovery of incriminating documents and articles. After receiving inputs of an alleged bribe exchange, the CBI laid a trap wherein the JDC of CDSCO was caught while accepting a bribe of Rs 4 lakh from the director of a Delhi-based private company, who has also been apprehended along with the Associate Vice-President of Biocon Biologics. UPDATE: Police arrest fraudulent Japanese restaurant owner at Suvarnabhumi Airport Today, Thailand’s Central Investigation Bureau arrested the fraudulent owner of Daruma Sushi, a famous Japanese restaurant chain, at Suvarnabhumi Airport. “Metha” returned to Thailand today having fled to Dubai in the UAE on June 16, after he received over 500 complaints from unhappy customers and staff. Police said Metha caused damages equating to more than 100 million baht to customers and employees of his 27 Daruma Sushi restaurants. Metha sold thousands of sushi vouchers for just 199 baht each, reduced from 499 baht. The vouchers were snapped up by sushi lovers, but soon enough Metha closed down all 27 Daruma Sushi restaurants and fled the country. Today, Metha returned to Thailand to face the chaos he created. Thai Army lifts ban on Lazada to help country boost economy

The Royal Thai Army has lifted a boycott of the e-commerce platform Lazada. The company, owned by the Alibaba Group, was banned from delivering parcels to military premises all over the country for 42 days because of an offensive advert that insulted the Thai Royal Family, and disabled people. Last month Lazada goods were banned from entering Royal Thai Army premises because its TikTok adverts were considered offensive to disabled people, and the Thai Royal Family. As a consequence, the Thai military warned soldiers of penalties if they ordered goods from Lazada. The two so-called offensive videos were launched on the TikTok account of a 23 year old influencer named Aniwat “Nara” Prathumthin. The first video features the 2 influencers in a mother-daughter scenario. Nara plays the daughter role while another influencer, 28 year old Thidaporn “Noo Rat” Chaokuwiang, took the disabled mother role in a wheelchair. UPDATE: Fraudulent Japanese restaurant owner denied bail The court denied the owner of Daruma Sushi’s request for bail this afternoon, after he was arrested by police at Suvarnabhumi Airport yesterday. Police say “Metha” has caused millions of baht in damages and has countless allegations against him. The 39 year old owner of Daruma Sushi – Metha Chalingsook – got into trouble when his business went into liquidation during the Covid-19 pandemic. To combat his mountain of debt, Metha sold innumerable sushi vouchers at discounted prices before closing down all 27 Daruma Sushi restaurants without warning. After receiving over 500 complaints from outraged staff and customers, Metha fled to Dubai on June 16. Authorities pressured him to come back and he was arrested upon his arrival at Suvarnabhumi Airport yesterday. The Central Investigation Bureau arrested Metha under suspicion of fraud and other offences under Thailand’s Computer Crimes Act.
