BIDEN INVOKES EMERGENCY WAR POWERS TO BUILD SOLAR PANELS… NY POST: Biden draws heat for invoking Defense Production Act to boost solar panels President Biden drew criticism Monday after invoking the Defense Production Act to potentially expedite the production of solar panels — with journalists and Republicans questioning the rationale for using special wartime powers. Renewable energy advocates, meanwhile, cheered the White House announcement that Biden would invoke the act “to accelerate domestic production of clean energy technologies, including solar panel parts.” […] The Biden administration did not specify a national-defense reason for using the act to boost solar panels. When Biden was vice president, the Obama administration aggressively pushed for solar energy production — sparking the Solyndra scandal when a politically-connected firm went bankrupt after getting $535 million in federal loan guarantees. New York Polio Update: Hundreds May Be Infected, Based On Wastewater Findings In 2 Counties
Share to Twitter Share to Linkedin What a waste. On Thursday, the New York State Department of Health (NYSDOH) announced that they had found poliovirus in wastewater samples from two counties, Orange County and Rockland County, in June and July. This water polio announcement came two weeks after the NYSDOH had announced on July 21 that an unvaccinated adult in Rockland County had gotten infected with the poliovirus and as a result became paralyzed. If you are wondering, “hmmm, polio, I don’t get it,” that’s because the U.S. was declared polio-free in 1979. That declaration came after years of public health efforts to get the U.S. population vaccinated against this dangerous and potentially deadly virus. Yet, such reappearance of the poliovirus in New York raises more concerns that continuing anti-vaccination campaigns may be setting our country back many decades and laying to waste all the hard work that had gotten the U.S. polio-free in the first place. … [Read more...] about New York Polio Update: Hundreds May Be Infected, Based On Wastewater Findings In 2 Counties
Covid-19, Gender And Immune Response: What’s The Relationship? (Part Two)
Share to Twitter Share to Linkedin This is the second installment in a two part series which analyzes biological sex differences in immune responses to SARS-CoV-2 infection. Part one focuses primarily on Covid-19 related viral entry, innate and adaptive immune responses to Covid-19 and their correlation to epidemiological evidence. This article will highlight the role of sex hormones in SARS-CoV-2 immune responses, examine sex differences in response to vaccines, and consider their possible therapeutic implications. Covid-19 disease severity and mortality differ between men and women, but the reasons for such differences are not well understood. Part one of this series delves into sex differences in response to SARS-CoV-2 infection and notes how stronger immune responses seen in females likely contribute to the better outcomes observed. This second and final installment will analyze two more elucidating factors: the role of sex hormones on SARS-CoV-2 … [Read more...] about Covid-19, Gender And Immune Response: What’s The Relationship? Implications Of Monkeypox Being Declared A Public Health Emergency In U.S.
Share to Twitter Share to Linkedin On August 4th, the Biden Administration declared monkeypox a public health emergency. The announcement comes on the heels of the World Health Organization declaring monkeypox a public health emergency of international concern in July. This implies monkeypox poses a global public health risk through international spread, which requires a coordinated international response. In the U.S., prior to the Biden Administration’s declaration, a number of municipalities and even several states - California, Illinois, and New York - had declared monkeypox a public health emergency. More than 27,600 monkeypox cases have been reported across 87 countries. With approximately 8,300 confirmed cases, the U.S. comprises 30% of confirmed infections worldwide. Furthermore, test positivity is very high in the U.S., which reflects undertesting. A Public Health Declaration allows the Secretary of Health and Human Services (HHS) to take … [Read more...] about Implications Of Monkeypox Being Declared A Public Health Emergency In U.S.
Gavin Newsom’s Needling Of GOP Governors Will Be Paid For By Taxpayers
Share to Twitter Share to Linkedin California Governor Gavin Newsom (D) made national news for his recent TV ad campaign encouraging Floridians to move to California based on his claim that the Golden State is a bastion of freedom. Newsom’s Florida ads have since been the subject of mockery and derision, with Governor Ron DeSantis (R) and others pointing out California has lost thousands of former residents and millions of dollars of wealth to Florida in recent years. In fact, from 2019 to 2020 alone, California saw a net outmigration of more than 11,500 people to Florida, who took $1.9 billion in annual income with them. “While Governor Newsom breaks his own laws to dine at French Laundry as ordinary Californians suffer under his rule, he continues to lose the remaining sane residents of his state. Where do they go? They come to Florida,” said Sal Nuzzo, vice president of policy at the James Madison Institute, a Florida-based think tank. “Today, 30 … [Read more...] about Gavin Newsom’s Needling Of GOP Governors Will Be Paid For By Taxpayers
First Child Death From Marburg Virus In Ghana, Brings Outbreak Death Toll To 3
Share to Twitter Share to Linkedin Ghana has just had four firsts when it comes to Marburg virus disease (MVD) with none of them being good firsts.
