Aanika Biosciences, scientists are working on new technology that can change the process: the tech places invisible, edible microbial tags on each head of lettuce. That makes the tracking process vastly more simple than combing back through records of the produce supply chain on paper, trying to untangle where lettuce came from after it’s been through processing centers that mix greens from multiple farms together. … [Read more...] about These invisible, edible biological tags help track down the cause of E. coli outbreaks

Border Walls Aren’t Just Political Objects—They’re Ecological Barriers, Too
What does this mean for the jaguar? Jaguars, like most large predators, consume a tremendous number of calories every day and therefore require big territories, full of deer and javelinas, in which to hunt. An individual male jaguar may demand up to 53 square miles, and pretty much all the jaguars that have been documented in the United States have been male. The source population is in Sonora, Mexico. Take Phoebe Waller-Bridge’s Fleabag or Michaela Coel’s Chewing Gum, both quick-witted comedies featuring a dozen episodes over two seasons—comparable to one season of current American TV. … [Read more...] about Hollywood is redefining Peak TV—for better and for worse

What’s actually happening here? The College Board also produces the AP exams. This is the equivalent of an auto company discontinuing a struggling model, and encouraging customers toward its sister model. Subject Test registrations were down 8% from 2016-2019, and plummeted amidst the pandemic. The Board did not note this. … [Read more...] about Who wins and loses with the College Board’s cancellation of the SAT essay and subject tests?
