Seattle-based discount brokerage Redfin announced Wednesday, Jan. 9, it launched its RedfinNow direct homebuying program in L.A. late last year. Opendoor, the San Francisco company that kicked off the current wave of online cash homebuying, plans to move into the city early in 2019. Both companies are among more than a half-dozen deep-pocketed businesses buying up houses directly from homeowners through an online business plan that uses automated valuation algorithms that make quick purchase offers possible. A man, who was caught with £64,000 in a bag in Halifax, has been given a suspended sentence. Afzhan Nasar Hussain, 42, of Old Station Court, Heckmondwike, was seen collecting a bag filled with cash from an off-licence in Halifax on 5 September 2017, an investigation by HM Revenue and Customs (HMRC) revealed.Hussain left the shop on Hopwood Lane and drove away in a BMW. Soon after he was pulled over by HMRC officers at a petrol station on Godley Lane.Officers searched the vehicle and found the bag filled with £64,000 cash.Hussain was arrested at the scene and the cash was seized. When questioned by investigators, he refused to comment or explain where any of the money had come from.He later admitted the money did not belong to him and he was collecting the bag of cash as a favour for an associate. Thieves rammed through a village convenience store to steal a cash machine, before dragging it along the road, taking money and setting fire to their car in a dramatic early morning raid.Officers were called to the Co-op in Faversham Road, Lenham, near Maidstone, just after 2am after it was reported a Mitsubishi Shogun had been used to steal an ATM from inside the premises.It is understood the vehicle rammed the front of the shop and then pulled out the cash machine using strapping of some kind.It was then dragged along Faversham Road and over the A20 towards Doddington where it was left after a quantity of cash had been removed.The Shogun was later found on fire in Flint Lane and detectives from the Kent and Essex Serious Crime Directorate have now launched an investigation into the raid.Kent Fire and Rescue Service was called just after 3am where it found the vehicle vacated and "well alight".The blaze was extinguished by 3.30am using a hose reel jet.A spokesperson said it looked as … [Read more...] about Thieves steal cash machine in village raid
