Boxing: Mark Barriga ready to take huge step in young pro career

May 12, 2018 abs-cbn Leave a Comment

Mark Anthony Barriga wasn't even born yet when Gabriel Mendoza of Colombia began pounding the heavy bags. Despite their 16-year age gap, the rising star and the dangerous veteran will cross paths in the main event of a local card at SM Skydome in Quezon City on Sunday. With their 12-rounder tagged as an International Boxing Federation title eliminator, the winner gets a crack at the minimumweight crown of Hiroto Kyoguchi of Japan. Barriga, 22, doesn’t intend to fall out of the loop of contenders. “This is an opportunity of a lifetime. If you fail, it might not happen again,” said Barriga, whose stint in the 2012 London Olympics has drawn the envy of Mendoza, 38, who lamented that he was unable to represent Colombia in the quadrennial Games. That’s why Mendoza relishes the challenge of fighting the unbeaten Barriga (8-0, 1 KO) whom he praised for his natural talent and a beautiful style that he likened to that of Floyd Mayweather Jr. According to Mendoza (29-5-2, … [Read more...] about Boxing: Mark Barriga ready to take huge step in young pro career

“Fertility takes up your entire life, and it finds ways to seep into your career whether you want it to or not,” says local TV news anchor and reporter Kaci Aitchison. She endured months of invasive fertility treatments that impacted her work life so much that she ended up taking a monthlong (unpaid) leave and negotiated a change in her early morning hours to accommodate her treatment. Dealing with the intensely emotional, costly, and time-consuming ordeal of infertility at work can be overwhelming, to say the least. But Aitchison is far from alone. An estimated one in eight couples will struggle to conceive or sustain a pregnancy, with nearly 12% of women opting for some sort of fertility assistance. And while infertility impacts both men and women, women usually bear the brunt of the responsibility. Here, inspiring professionals share how they navigated infertility at the office: “The pressure of keeping it under wraps . . . was more stressful than just … [Read more...] about Three Women On How Infertility Impacted Their Careers
