Twitch vs. Mixer: The new streaming war

August 15, 2019 by edition.cnn.com

New York (CNN Business) Mac vs. PC. Android vs. iPhone. Twitch vs. Mixer? Tech rivalries are decades old, but the newest battle in the industry is over how people watch and broadcast video games. Twitch has substantially grown its video game streaming business since its launch in 2011, and Amazon ( AMZN ) purchased the service for $1 billion in 2014. But rival Microsoft ( MSFT ) is ramping up its video game streaming efforts and may give Twitch a run for its money soon. In late July, Twitch received some bad news: It lost Fortnite star Ninja to Microsoft's Mixer. After making millions of dollars from advertising and donations on Twitch, propelling himself and the platform into stardom, Ninja said he would stream exclusively on Mixer. He said he was returning to his "streaming roots," a vague statement many took to mean getting back to a smaller platform where he is the star. Some people speculated he had been paid handsomely to … [Read more...] about Twitch vs. Mixer: The new streaming war

Fiscal vs. monetary in age of uncertainty

May 17, 2022 by koreajoongangdaily.joins.com

The dollar is nearing 1,300 won due to the accelerated strengthening of the dollar with the Federal Reserve set to raise rates fast. The Kospi, which closed last year above 3,000, has sank to around 2,600 as foreign funds flee. Household debt of over 1,860 trillion won may be a ticking bomb due to rising interest rates. Prices across the board are reaching new heights. India, the world’s second largest wheat producer, is prohibiting wheat exports apart from exceptional government approvals. Ukraine, one of the world’s biggest grain suppliers, has become barren under Russian bombardment. Food prices around the world are shooting up and fanning inflation. Indonesia, the world’s biggest palm oil supplier, last month stopped outbound shipments of palm oil. Food protectionism is spreading amid supply shortages. Choo Kyung-ho, deputy prime minister and finance minister, met with Bank of Korea governor Rhee Chang-yong for the first time since both took office. May 17, 2022 by entertainment.inquirer.net

Amber Heard and Johnny Depp watch as the jury leaves the courtroom at the end of the day at the Fairfax County Circuit Courthouse in Fairfax, Va., Monday, May 16, 2022. Image: Reuters/Steve Helber LOS ANGELES — “Aquaman” actor Amber Heard will face more questioning on Tuesday from attorneys for her ex-husband, Johnny Depp, the Hollywood star she has accused of physical and emotional abuse before and during their brief marriage. The “Pirates of the Caribbean” actor, 58, is suing Heard for $50 million, saying she defamed him when she claimed she was a victim of domestic abuse. Heard, 36, has countersued for $100 million, arguing that Depp smeared her by calling her a liar. On Monday, she told jurors it was “torture” to see her claims being questioned and to have to defend herself to the public. “I want to move on,” she said through tears. “I want Johnny to move on too. I want him to leave me alone.” Depp’s attorneys began their attempt to discredit her claims by introducing … [Read more...] about Johnny Depp’s lawyers to resume questioning of ex-wife in defamation fight

Paradox: Artificial Intelligence Helps Solve, But Suffers From Skills Shortages

May 14, 2022 by www.forbes.com

Share to Twitter Share to Linkedin We don’t have enough people to build the AI systems that can automate business areas that don’t have enough people. Ironically, while AI is seen as a labor saver, stepping up to handle low-level or repetitive tasks for which it is difficult to find employees, the skills gap remains the biggest barrier to AI adoption. At the same time, AI is also helping organizations address skills shortages. That’s the word from the latest IBM study of 7,502 executives around the globe, which shows that AI skills shortages aren’t necessarily slowing things down. Currently, 35% of companies reported using AI in their business, an increase of four points from 2021. Businesses are turning to AI to address labor and skills shortages and drive greater efficiency. Two-thirds of IT professionals report their company is using automation tools to reduce manual or repetitive tasks. Nearly half of IT professionals overall report that their … [Read more...] about Paradox: Artificial Intelligence Helps Solve, But Suffers From Skills Shortages

Surprising Truths About The Great Resignation And Retaining Talent

December 15, 2021 by www.forbes.com

Share to Twitter Share to Linkedin Many articles now plaster the business media with news about the Great Resignation where employees see a hot labor market today and decide to go after a better situation for themselves. At Everest Group, we gathered empirical evidence from employees in many companies and compared that data with our findings from discussions with C-suite executives in leading organizations. Our study yielded both surprising and unsurprising findings. The biggest surprise is the significant gap between the reasons why employees move to other companies and what employers now do to try to retain them. The money picture Let’s start with data around why people leave their jobs and move to another company. It’s unsurprising, to say the least. They leave because they can get paid a lot more somewhere else – not a modest amount more – a lot more. What is surprising is the order of magnitude that this is happening and the amount of the … [Read more...] about Surprising Truths About The Great Resignation And Retaining Talent
