And the region also features some of the shortest-tenured owners, too. A study by Value Penguin of 318 U.S. cities with populations in excess of 100,000 shows the diversity of ownership length in the four counties covered by the Southern California News Group. Take East Los Angeles. That’s where the median length of ownership is 18.4 years as of 2018, the second-longest nationally. Detroit was tops at 20.3 years. East L.A. ranked No. 1 statewide. Compare that to Temecula, where homeowners have stayed a median 9.9 years. That’s the 23rd shortest ownership among the large cities studied. The national low was Enterprise, Nevada, at 6.6 years. Real estate data tracker CoreLogic’s monthly housing market report shows home values rose slightly last month. And while sales were down, they decreased by the smallest margin in nine months. “The buyers feel more motivated to get back in the market. There’s some incentives with rates being down,” said Jessica Nieto, a broker with Brooke Realty who sells homes in Los Angeles County. “I would say (the market) feels better (than a year ago).
