Share to Twitter Share to Linkedin Looking at the Disability Economy in its current incarnation, we can see it as a natural extension of the social and political advocacy movements for Disability Civil Rights that were critical in pushing for greater inclusion and active participation. Yet, it is important to understand that the Disability Economy both in the abstract and practical forms is fluid, and we must be able to ascertain not only what this means, but how to think about envisioning a future reality where disability is central to improving the human experience. Presently, as we further examine this new economic reality, we are finding key themes that are making their way to the forefront of the conversation. Ideas from accessibility, diversity, and inclusion to ESG investing are the basis for the present thinking of how business is redefining a new paradigm of disability. The maxim “Nothing About Us Without Us” is evolving into something beyond its … [Read more...] about Mindset Matters: Transforming The Philosophy Of The Disability Economy For Present And Future (Part IV)

Dr Copper’s falling prices indicate more ailments on the cards for global economy
Copper or Doctor Copper as market analysts refer to it due to its reputation of having a “Ph.D. in economics” because of its ability to predict the direction of global economy, has tumbled significantly in the recent past and is currently trading at its 15-month low on the London Metals Exchange (LME). The past trends of copper prices and global economic growth have signified that both the copper prices and global economy move in tandem and one can predict the turning points in global economy based on the direction of global copper prices. Experts are of the opinion that the correlation between copper prices and global economic health does largely hold good, though, at times there might be some brief aberrations. “Aberrations may occur due to governments’ interventions in the form of fiscal stimulus, or the major central bankers’ trying to respond to the changing macro-economic conditions by the way of change in their monetary policies”, said Praveen Singh, AVP, Fundamental … [Read more...] about Dr Copper’s falling prices indicate more ailments on the cards for global economy

The New Power Dynamic Shift From Employees To Employers
Share to Twitter Share to Linkedin There is a power dynamic shift taking place between the employee and employer. For the last year and a half, workers were in high demand. Desperately needing staff as the economy reopened, companies catered to the workers. Businesses offered remote and hybrid work choices. Some provided flexibility , allowing people to decide where and when they’d like to work. Digital nomads were permitted to do their tasks anywhere in the world. If a person wanted to relocate from a high-cost city to another location, management allowed the worker to earn the same amount of compensation , despite the lower cost of living. Businesses offered resources and benefits to help with their staff’s mental health, emotional well-being and avoiding burnout. Seemingly overnight, the mood has dramatically changed. As inflation raged, wreaking havoc on the economy, along with other geopolitical and macro events, thousands of people were … [Read more...] about The New Power Dynamic Shift From Employees To Employers
Living On Bitcoin For A Week: Bitcoiners Are The New Vegans
Share to Twitter Share to Linkedin Day 4. Bitcoin's value hit its low point on Friday On Friday, I skip breakfast again; it’s an unavoidable part of the Bitcoin diet as there are no places that serve food before 10 a.m. accepting my currency. I lose my appetite anyway when I check the value of Bitcoin; it has plummeted to $90 over night. It has been on a steady decline since I started my Bitcoin challenge. Is it me? My editor suggests the value is falling because I’m showing “ what a drag ” it is to use it. But I think it's due instead to a huge Bitcoin lawsuit that became public Thursday night. The virtual money has sparked a $75 million (real world currency) complaint; Seattle start-up Coinlab is suing Mt. Gox, saying the Japanese Bitcoin exchange has failed to follow through on the partnership they inked, refusing to let Coinlab take over management of Mt. Gox’s American and Canadian accounts as it allegedly agreed to do. Wrote Adrian … [Read more...] about Living On Bitcoin For A Week: Bitcoiners Are The New Vegans
In an Uncertain Economy, Financial Wellness Training Is Fast Becoming a Hot Perk
Twenty-three years after founding her own company, Amy Power still remembered the feeling of living paycheck to paycheck. The CEO of The Power Group, a Dallas-based public relations and crisis management firm, Power wanted to ensure that her employees did not make the same financial mistakes that she did in her 20s. Her 14 employees, most of whom are Millennials or Gen-Zers, needed to know how to manage their salaries for the long term, so Power offered them something she wished she'd had at their age: access to a personal financial manager. "It takes some stress off the employee," says Power, whose company made Inc.'s 2022 Best Workplaces list . "If they're worried day to day about making ends meet, how are they going to really be focused when they need to be?" Americans are navigating a tricky financial moment, facing the highest consumer prices in 40 years, investment portfolios battered by a fresh bear market, and increasing odds of a recession in the next year. Share to Twitter Share to Linkedin The New York Times editorial board says that canceling student loans for everyone is a “bad idea.” Here’s what you need to know — and what it means for your student loans . Student Loans In a major blow to supporters of wide-scale student loan cancellation, the New York Times editorial board officially opposes student loan forgiveness for all borrowers. Among the highlights of the new editorial: The burden of student loan debt is “crushing” and has caused “lasting, generational damage on the lives of millions of Americans”; However, if President Joe Biden enacts wide-scale student loan cancellation through an executive order, it would be “ legally dubious , economically unsound, politically unfraught, and educationally problematic”; Rather than cancel student loans for everyone, the Biden administration should make higher education more affordable and help student loan borrowers who are the … [Read more...] about Student Loan Cancellation: New York Times Says Canceling Student Loans For Everyone Is A ‘Bad Idea’

Photographer: Andrey Rudakov/Bloomberg India's government is engaged on the issue of facilitating payments with Russia, and the Reserve Bank of India will do whatever the government decides, Deputy Governor Michael Patra said June 24. He did not offer any other details. The Deputy Governor's statements assume significance as the government had remained tight-lipped on the issue even as multiple meetings between banking representatives of both nations had taken place. Ever since the Russian invasion of Ukraine and the subsequent barrage of sanctions on Moscow by the West, trade between India and Russia has depended on routing transactions through smaller Russian banks which are as yet untouched by sanctions. Both nations had initially focused on establishing a barter mechanism involving a set of commodities. A key part of this would be an agreement … [Read more...] about India engaged on issue of facilitating payments with Russia: Deputy Governor Michael Patra
