6 situations where it makes sense to listen to feelings of doubt at work

August 18, 2022 by www.fastcompany.com

I recently had the pleasure of listening to Adam Grant speak at an American Express Conference. In a wide-ranging Q & A, he was full of his usual wisdom, but the big idea that captured my interest was his notion that “flickers of doubt” deserve our attention. advertisement advertisement Grant explained that we may try to hush this negative inner voice and bury what it’s trying to tell us. But the author of Think Again begs to differ with those who would dismiss this. Grant believes there is wisdom in that inner voice. These “flickers of doubt” can play a positive and creative role in our business lives. They can lead us to work harder and smarter and find the best solutions. After giving this some thought, I’ve come up with six workplace situations when a “flicker of doubt” can be an asset to you: 1. JOB INTERVIEW advertisement Job interviews can be scary. Your inner voice may be saying you’ll blow it or that you don’t know … [Read more...] about 6 situations where it makes sense to listen to feelings of doubt at work

AirAsia X to fly to Tokyo and Osaka in Japan

September 2, 2014 by thethaiger.com

PHUKET MEDIA WATCH – Thailand news selected by Gazette editors for Phuket’s international community AirAsia X to fly to Tokyo and Osaka in Japan Phuket Gazette CEO Nadda Buranasiri said yesterday that the long-haul, low-cost carrier is now connecting Bangkok’s Don Mueang International Airport to Tokyo’s Narita International Airport with one flight a day and also to Osaka’s Kansai Airport with five flights a week. Despite the low season, the move into Japan has been well received with the load factor averaging more than 80 per cent. This has given the airline confidence that demand for low-fare travel between the two countries will continue to increase. “We have already achieved 50-per-cent advance bookings for the first quarter of 2015 and have decided to increase flight frequencies to two per day for Tokyo and one daily to Osaka to serve visitors during the Songkran holiday. Frequency adjustment will be starting in late March,” he said. The airline’s third … [Read more...] about AirAsia X to fly to Tokyo and Osaka in Japan

5 common (but dangerous) pieces of career advice

August 18, 2022 by www.fastcompany.com

When you’re growing your career or advancing in your role, good advice from a trusted mentor can be motivating and inspiring. But what about the bad advice you’re also bound to receive? Whether people mean well or are just plain critical, judgements people share about you can be disorienting, distressing, and disheartening. advertisement advertisement But it’s possible to take bad advice in stride and learn from it, while not letting it get in your way. A hidden truth: Bad advice is always based on context—and you have to be the final judge of which advice is helpful to you and which you should leave behind. Consider whether you’ve asked for input . When you have, and when you’re prepared for a variety of feedback , it’s always easier to hear. But even if you haven’t asked for input, it can be helpful to hear others’ perspectives. Consider the source. Your grandmother was right about this—the feedback you receive is frequently more about … [Read more...] about 5 common (but dangerous) pieces of career advice

Tampa Bay Buccaneers Head Coach Todd Bowles was hammered with questions about the absence of his star quarterback during a recent press conference. He revealed Brady was “going to deal with some personal things” but refused to elaborate on the specifics surrounding the situation. “We trust him. We talked about it. It was scheduled way before training camp and he will not be here until after Tennessee,” Bowles said to the press. Oil rises as strong US demand eases fears of economic slowdown

August 18, 2022 by www.theedgemarkets.com

- A + A (Aug 18): Oil rose for a second day as a bullish US stockpile report eased fears of an economic slowdown. West Texas Intermediate climbed as much as 2.2% to over US$90 a barrel on Thursday. This week’s Energy Information Administration report offset some of the gloom over a potential recession. US crude stockpiles sank by 7.06 million barrels last week, exports rose to a record and gasoline demand climbed to the highest this year. The report surprised markets by signaling “the fundamentals may not be as negative to crude as thought just a week ago,” said Dennis Kissler, senior vice president of trading at BOK Financial. “However, traders are still worried about the overall economic outlook going forward, it’s keeping a very nervous trade to the futures market” Prices are fluctuating partially because of declining market liquidity. Aggregate open interest over WTI contracts yesterday was the lowest since January 2015 at 1.54 million contracts. Going Back to School with Stock Market Fundamentals

August 15, 2022 by www.investopedia.com

Make that four weeks in a row of gains for the U.S. stock market, as the rally has become undeniable. The S&P 500 and the Nasdaq both climbed more than 3% last week, with the the Dow up 2.9%. The S&P 500 has now climbed 15% from its lows in mid-June, while the Nasdaq has clawed back 20% since then. That could technically be described as a new bull market for the index. A 20% retracement from a recent low fits the bill—or the bull—but there are a lot of opinions about that. But we can't deny the strength of the rally, especially when we dig into the charts. The average stock in the Nasdaq Composite index is up 34% from its lows. Remember, just a few months ago, we were talking about the average Nasdaq stock being down 50% from its highs. The pendulum has swung back in a big way. Across the market, the breadth thrust has been pretty impressive. And no, that's not a swimming stroke. The breath trust indicator is a technical indicator used to ascertain market momentum … [Read more...] about Going Back to School with Stock Market Fundamentals
