Share to Twitter Share to Linkedin Across the spectrum of care, we now see more empowered health-seeking consumers who want access to better healthcare. And that also includes transparency of costs, access to personal health records for self-improvement, and chronic disease monitoring. As consumer behavior and preferences continue to change, we need the digital healthcare landscape to adapt quickly to provide various regulated and non-regulated tools and platforms. Why? Well, for two reasons. According to iHealthcareAnalyst , Inc. in an October 19, 2021 report, the Global Preventive Healthcare Market will be $287 Billion by 2027. The second reason is more important. The current healthcare model is fracturing. Hospitals are not equipped to deal with a shift to preventive care with outdated infrastructure and care models. Companies like CVS and others are offering clinic care at their stores with nurse practitioners. And the COVID pandemic has people getting … [Read more...] about Entrepreneurs Utilize Technology To Build The Future Of Healthcare With Preventative Products And Services

Doctors are taking to TikTok to offer guidance on monkeypox—and to dispel harmful myths
For nearly a minute, TikTok viewers can hear the person crying over the sound of a running shower, lamenting that they “can’t even describe the pain.” The video is overlaid with a large text bubble, obfuscating the sufferer’s face. Accompanying the video , gastroenterologist Dr. Carlton Thomas offered a frank and haunting caption: “The agony of MonkeyPox is real.” advertisement advertisement Thomas has been routinely posting about monkeypox since late June, meaning he started sharing information about the disease to his nearly 270,000 TikTok followers weeks before the World Health Organization (WHO) declared it a global health emergency. “ I think that hearing real-time suffering and seeing people with real stories of what truly is happening helps dispel the false narrative that this is a painless disease and shows how truly serious it is ,” he tells Fast Company. “T his disease is not to be taken lightly, and these videos drive … [Read more...] about Doctors are taking to TikTok to offer guidance on monkeypox—and to dispel harmful myths
A $750 million attempt to reinvent the hospital
When the need arises for specialized healthcare, like a complicated brain surgery or pediatric cancer treatment, the only option for most people living in Greece is to go to Athens. Healthcare infrastructure in the country’s smaller cities and rural areas can handle only so much. advertisement advertisement A new $750 million effort is underway to reinvent healthcare in Greece by building state-of-the-art hospitals in places other than the capital. “There is a need in Greece to improve access and quality of care in regions that are underserved,” says Elianna Konialis, who leads the Stavros Niarchos Foundation (SNF) Health Initiative , which is fully funding the effort. Greece’s economic collapse in the mid-2000s put its already creaky healthcare system on life support , with many hospitals unable to upgrade systems. The pandemic has heightened those disparities . advertisement advertisement Leading the design is Pritzker … [Read more...] about A $750 million attempt to reinvent the hospital
Some lab techs refuse to take blood from possible monkeypox patients, raising concerns about stigma and testing delays
(CNN) Many technicians at Labcorp and Quest Diagnostics, two of the largest commercial labs in the US, have been refusing to draw blood from patients who might have monkeypox, CNN has learned. Labcorp and Quest don't dispute that in many cases, their phlebotomists are not taking blood from possible monkeypox patients. What remains unclear, after company statements and follow-ups from CNN, is whether the phlebotomists are refusing on their own to take blood or if it is the company policy that prevents them. The two testing giants say they're reviewing their safety policies and procedures for their employees. Testing is crucial to getting monkeypox under control, but there's a 'shocking' lack of demand Infectious disease experts who treat monkeypox patients say that the refusals are based on stigma and slow efforts to identify and isolate patients with monkeypox at a time when the nation's health officials are coming under criticism for struggling to get the … [Read more...] about Some lab techs refuse to take blood from possible monkeypox patients, raising concerns about stigma and testing delays

ENERGY-STARVED EUROPE DIMS THE LIGHTS, CUTS THE A/C… JAZZ SHAW: Lights out, cold showers in Europe We still see news coverage coming out of Europe issuing “warnings” about a possible energy crisis, spurred in part by the removal of Russian oil and natural gas from the European market. […] The President of the European Commission warned people this week that the time to start conserving and building stockpiles of oil and natural gas was yesterday. And it’s not just going to be Germany and Italy that are suffering. It will be the entire continent. […] Germany previously secured a third of its natural gas from Russia. That amount has been slashed in half and may fall to zero before winter arrives. The Germans are shutting off the heat to public swimming pools and showers. Public spaces with outdoor lighting are having a percentage of the bulbs removed. Thermostats in government buildings and public schools are being lowered. In the Netherlands, a new public program has been … [Read more...] about Editor Daily Rundown: Energy-Starved Europe Dims The Lights, Cuts The A/C
This Founder Raised $30 Million To Cut Through The Red Tape Every Health Startup Hates
Share to Twitter Share to Linkedin D erek Lo acknowledges healthcare administration isn’t a particularly sexy topic, but it’s mission critical for every digital health startup. Health insurers and hospitals in the U.S. spend more than $800 billion each year on administrative costs. If these startups can’t figure out how to license doctors across multiple states or get paid by insurers, they won’t be able to scale or generate revenue. His company, Medallion, is soothing these pain points with automation. “You need to solve them first before you can make money,” says Lo, 26, founder and CEO of the San Francisco, California-based company. “This is not a vitamin, it's truly a painkiller.” That’s why nearly a hundred startups, including Ro, Firefly Health, Ginger and Eden Health, have signed up for Medallion’s software since the company launched in March 2020. On Wednesday, Medallion announced a $30 million Series B led by Sequoia Capital valuing the company … [Read more...] about This Founder Raised $30 Million To Cut Through The Red Tape Every Health Startup Hates

MORE PROOF GOVERNMENT LOCKDOWNS CRUSHED AMERICA… WSJ: Red States Are Winning the Post-Pandemic Economy The pandemic has changed the geography of the American economy. By many measures, red states—those that lean Republican—have recovered faster economically than Democratic-leaning blue ones, with workers and employers moving from the coasts to the middle of the country and Florida. Since February 2020, the month before the pandemic began, the share of all U.S. jobs located in red states has grown by more than half a percentage point, according to an analysis of Labor Department data by the Brookings Institution think tank. Red states have added 341,000 jobs over that time, while blue states were still short 1.3 million jobs as of May.
