Maccabi And Sighteer Use Sports History NFTs To Build Community Across The Metaverse

August 3, 2022 by www.forbes.com

Share to Twitter Share to Linkedin On a recent morning, Eran Reshef was touring an archive that will go on display at the soon-to-open Maccabi Museum on the outskirts of Tel Aviv. As he moved through the hundreds of medals, trophies, badges, flags, pictures, films, and memoirs from more than a century of sports competition, the Israeli entrepreneur kept thinking about how to move the past and present into the future. Inspired by his observation of the artifacts and wanting to find ways for technology to create connections between younger generations of people on social networks and in the metaverse, “Project Max” was born. Project Max is an initiative that makes use of nonfungible tokens as a way to reach the public. The NFTs are officially-licensed digital memorabilia generated from Maccabi’s physical archives. But they do more than serve as the latest attempt by an established organization to grab on to the recent popularity of NFTs among collectors, … [Read more...] about Maccabi And Sighteer Use Sports History NFTs To Build Community Across The Metaverse

ViewHouse owner plans to build restaurant in LoHi

August 5, 2022 by www.denverpost.com

Ten years after Francois Safieddine purchased land in front of Prost Brewing Co. & Biergarten in LoHi, the local restaurateur has submitted plans to build a restaurant there. Safieddine, who owns My Neighbor Felix and ViewHouse, submitted a site development plan to the city last week for the property at 1875 Central St. He purchased the undeveloped 0.3-acre lot for $950,000 in 2012, according to property records. The founder of restaurant group Lotus Concepts wants to construct a 6,120-square-foot building, according to plans by Coyote Architecture. The main floor will be 4,395 square feet, and the second floor will be 1,725 square feet. The lot is zoned for up to five stories. The plans refer to the project as New View Restaurant, but that appears to be a placeholder name. Emily Ahrens, Lotus Concept’s director of marketing, told BusinessDen there is no timeline for this project and no details to share yet. Safieddine has been staying busy lately. Last month, he … [Read more...] about ViewHouse owner plans to build restaurant in LoHi

Udit Kulshrestha/Bloomberg By Alan Ohnsman and Matt Drange A federal judge has ordered Uber to return documents stolen from Google and set strict limits on the engineer who took them from working on Uber's driverless vehicle program. The preliminary injunction is the latest blow to Uber in its legal battle with Alphabet Inc.’s Waymo over trade secrets theft, but it fell short of an outright ban on Uber's work on self-driving cars. The ruling was unsealed early Monday, less than a week after U.S. District Court Judge William Alsup referred the case to the Justice Department for possible criminal actions by engineer Anthony Levandowski . Alsup also denied Uber’s request to have the matter resolved in private arbitration, a decision that ensures the high-stakes legal … [Read more...] about Uber’s Legal Woes Worsen As Judge Bars Top Engineer From Working On Self-Driving Car Tech

Angel City FC, Determined To Build Differently, Adds Klarna In A Different Kind Of Sponsorship Deal

November 2, 2021 by www.forbes.com

Share to Twitter Share to Linkedin Angel City FC president and founder Julie Uhrman understands that when the bar is set at creating a different kind of soccer franchise, it is necessary to build out the business side of it in a new way. So it seems entirely appropriate that ACFC’s new multi-year deal with Klarna, an all-in-one shopping platform, represents that company’s first foray into a sports organization anywhere in the world. “We're leading with purpose,” Uhrman said in a phone interview. “We want to set higher expectations and we want to have an impact on and off the field not only for our players, but for our fans and community. And so it gives an opportunity for brands not only to enter the sports space, but enter it from a position of — how can I really connect with my audience? What are my values and how can I bring my values to life?” Accordingly, there are some components to this partnership that are, well, different. Ten percent of all … [Read more...] about Angel City FC, Determined To Build Differently, Adds Klarna In A Different Kind Of Sponsorship Deal

August 6, 2022 by www.forbes.com

Share to Twitter Share to Linkedin Why are so many employers reluctant to talk with their employees about the pervasive mental health crisis in the American workplace? August 12, 2022 by www.denverpost.com

Local 46 is closing, and its previously announced relocation plans have fallen through. The bar at 4586 Tennyson St. in Berkeley will shutter on Sept. 30, as its landlord moves forward with plans to redevelop the corner, co-owner Niya Gingerich said. “I’m trying to soak up all the memories and regulars we have here, and make the most of the last weeks,” Gingerich said. “I’m trying to be present in these last fleeting moments and continue the search to try to find a new home for Local.” Niya and husband Grant Gingerich opened Local 46 in 2012. They originally closed it in October 2020, fearing thatthe business would not be able to make it through the pandemic winter with limited capacity, and knowing their previous landlord had received a certificate of demolition eligibility for the building. But the local watering hole reopened in April 2021 after working out a temporary month-to-month lease with its new landlord, Alpine Investments and Revesco Properties. Now, however, … [Read more...] about Tennyson bar Local 46 to close without relocation plans in place

Trouble Ahead? Inflation And The Coming Recession

August 2, 2022 by www.forbes.com

Share to Twitter Share to Linkedin Martin A. Sullivan, Tax Analysts’ chief economist, revisits the United States’ economic path to inflation and discusses mitigation efforts for a possible recession. This transcript has been edited for length and clarity. David D. Stewart: Welcome to the podcast. I'm David Stewart, editor in chief of Tax Notes Today International . This week: racing toward recession? In March, we looked at how inflation was affecting the U.S. economy as the country started to emerge from the COVID-19 pandemic. Since then, the economy has been under even more scrutiny as inflation continues at its highest level in decades. At the same time, recession fears are beginning to mount. Apple’s Biggest Hit Product Is an Overnight Success 38 Years in the Making

May 3, 2022 by www.inc.com

For at least a decade, Apple has mostly been the company that makes the iPhone . Obviously, it makes other products, but none of them are the reason Apple is a $2.5 trillion company . The iPhone isn't just Apple's most important product , it's the device all other smartphones are measured against. Despite that, Apple's biggest hit product right now isn't the iPhone--it's the Mac. You would be forgiven if you didn't see that coming. In some ways, you could argue that the Mac, as it exists today, looks like an overnight success. The reason isn't complicated--the new Macs with Apple Silicon are amazing. They're better than really anything else you could spend that much money on. Even the entry-level MacBook Air is probably the best laptop most people should consider buying. It's definitely the best overall value. The MacBook Pro , which was released last October, is arguably the biggest hit product Apple has had in a decade. Apple said it set a record for Mac … [Read more...] about Apple’s Biggest Hit Product Is an Overnight Success 38 Years in the Making
