If you're serious about bringing your ideas for products to market, you should absolutely attend trade shows. They're always eye-opening. The only way to truly understand the mechanics of any industry is by attending its trade shows. One guarantee? You'll be overwhelmed. I've attended all kinds of shows over the course of my career as a product developer , including toys, back-to-school, pet, housewares, hardware, electronic, promotional, music, and more. Checking out the latest innovations and making new friends at a trade show never fails to inspire me. But I've also wasted a lot of time attending the wrong shows and not having clearly defined goals. When you're starting out, it's especially important that you make good decisions. Your resources are limited! Preparation is key. At trade shows, I meet inventors who have spent years and tens of thousands of dollars getting ready to show their product to the world. They've paid for a booth and now today's the big … [Read more...] about What Inventors Need to Know About Trade Shows

Federal Land, Nomura to build ‘smart’ Japanese townships
Property giant Federal Land Inc. has its origins as a hobby of the late business magnate and Metrobank group founder George S.K. Ty. Five decades later, the builder is betting its future on a sprawling partnership with Nomura Real Estate (NRE) Development Co. Ltd., one of Japan’s top developers, to bring Japanese technology and aesthetics to the Philippine property market. The two real estate powerhouses teamed up to form Federal Land NRE Global Inc. (FNG), the vehicle that would develop a series of townships across the country, including a 100-hectare Japanese “smart city” in Cavite and a mixed-use project along Manila Bay. Federal Land chair Alfred Ty said on Tuesday investments could reach roughly $2 billion in less than a decade. Other local developers have expanded into townships, which typically refer to masterplanned communities offering a combination of residential, commercial and office projects, but Ty said FNG would go beyond this model. “FNG is looking at offering … [Read more...] about Federal Land, Nomura to build ‘smart’ Japanese townships
Promoting The Free Economy In Brazil
Share to Twitter Share to Linkedin Latin America is going bad – very bad. Many of the region's large economies have lurched toward leftist populism in recent years. With the election of former guerrilla leader Gustavo Petro to the presidency, Colombia seems to be another victim of the trend. But for such leftists, the big prize is still to be captured: Brazil. With almost half of South America's economy and population and bordering ten countries, what happens in Brazil is always relevant for the Americas and the world. The country's upcoming presidential election is a case in point. The two leading candidates, Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva and Jair Bolsonaro, both have plenty of detractors. Local and foreign media cover their campaigns and road to the election. There is seldom coverage of those who work outside the political party system to try to influence Brazil's future. I want to highlight some of them here. I will only focus on non-religious organizations … [Read more...] about Promoting The Free Economy In Brazil
The Benefits of Licensing for Startups.
Startup founders need every tool at their disposal to successfully launch and grow their businesses. One of those tools is a clear understanding of how the licensing business model can be employed to support their goals , including speed to market and filing intellectual property that is attractive to investors. The concept of licensing has been around for a very long time. The inventor of the first patented technology -- Samuel Hopkins, in 1790, for a new method of manufacturing potash and pearl ash -- licensed it to a local businessman the next year, says historian Arthur Daemmrich at the Lemelson Center for the Study of Invention and Innovation. Basically, one party (the inventor or artist) grants another party (typically a company) the right to produce and sell something they created. As far as I can tell, most startup founders aren't very familiar with the concept of licensing a product onto the market. Venturing -- the traditional method of bringing a … [Read more...] about The Benefits of Licensing for Startups.

Share to Twitter Share to Linkedin Gallery: The 93 Global Billionaires In Oil And Energy, 2016 87 images View gallery The incredibly powerful combination of fracking and horizontal drilling has sent U.S. natural gas supplies through the roof and prices through the floor. With marketed production increasing about 35% since 2008 to ~78 Bcf/d, prices have plummeted over 60% to around $3 per MMBtu. Check this U.S. Energy Information Administration (EIA) graphic to see just how historically low our gas prices really are, here . Last year brought the lowest gas prices we have seen since 1999 - and prices will remain low for as far as our modelers forecast. EIA just projected here that U.S. gas production will increase 1-2% per year in the coming decades, surging to 85 Bcf/d in 2020 and onto more than 100 Bcf/d by 2035 and even more in the subsequent years. This unstoppable rise in U.S. gas production stems mostly from an … [Read more...] about Why U.S. Natural Gas Prices Will Remain Low
The Kentucky Derby: Great Fun And A Must-Do For Your Bucket List
Share to Twitter Share to Linkedin Famous Churchill Downs racetrack - you have to see it in person to appreciate it. I’ll Have Another, as in I’ll Have Another Kentucky Derby, hopefully as soon as next year. I just returned from Louisville, Churchill Downs, and “The Most Exciting Two Minutes in Sports,” and I can sum my experience up in one word: Awesome. I’ve been to a lot of major sporting events, including the Super Bowl, and the argument could be made that the Kentucky Derby is the best of all, mainly because it is about so much more than the race itself. Go to the World Series or NBA Finals and you get 3 hours of entertainment. Much of the fun surrounding the Super Bowl is in the form of invitation-only parties and VIP events, not the game. But the Kentucky Derby is the complete package, morning to night fun - for two full days - at a minimum. You don’t have to know anything about horse racing to love the Derby, with all its pomp and … [Read more...] about The Kentucky Derby: Great Fun And A Must-Do For Your Bucket List
