(Reuters filepix by Tom Nicholson) - A + A LONDON (May 20): Britain on Friday said it was launching talks over a free trade deal with Mexico, looking to add services to its current agreement, as well as aiming to increase trade in the financial and digital sectors. Britain and Mexico agreed a continuation trade deal before Britain left the sphere of the European Union, but that arrangement is based on an EU-Mexico trade agreement negotiated over 20 years ago. A free-trade agreement with Mexico would also boost Britain's foreign policy tilt towards the Indo-Pacific. Mexico is a member of the Comprehensive and Progressive Agreement for Trans-Pacific Partnership (CPTPP), which Britain wants to join. The free trade area, established in 2018, is now made of Australia, Brunei, Canada, Chile, Japan, Malaysia, Mexico, New Zealand, … [Read more...] about Britain launches free trade deal talks with Mexico

Pakistan TikTok star faces backlash over forest fire video
ISLAMABAD: A Pakistani social media star with millions of followers is facing criticism after posing for a TikTok video by a forest fire, as a devastating heatwave causes widespread misery in the country. The user “Dollyofficiall” posted a clip of herself walking playfully in a silver ball gown in front of a burning hillside with the caption: “Fire erupts wherever I am.” It comes after police arrested a man earlier this month in the northwestern city of Abbottabad for intentionally starting a forest fire as a background for a video. Temperatures have peaked at 51°C in parts of Pakistan in recent days, leaving the poor and vulnerable struggling to beat the heat in the impoverished country. Dolly, who has more than 11 million followers on TikTok, said in a statement released by an assistant that she did not start the fire and there was “no harm in making videos”. The clip has since been taken down. “She should have been holding a bucket of water to extinguish the fire … [Read more...] about Pakistan TikTok star faces backlash over forest fire video

Share to Twitter Share to Linkedin The Preakness Stakes’ age-old form as the deceptively “shorter” centerpiece that has dashed many a Triple Crown dream will be turned on its head this year, as the 2022 top favorite Epicenter will attempt to turn the 147th running of the stakes into a rebound, of sorts, from his inability to hold the lead against a furious assault by longshot Rich Strike in the last furlong of the Kentucky Derby on May 7. Two weeks is not a long time between horse races at any level, let alone as an interval between two Triple Crown runs. The density of the gauntlet in which the Class of 2022 operates at the moment is why there have been just thirteen Triple Crown winners. Epicenter’s profile took quite a blow as the 80-1 longshot Rich Strike breezed by him in the Derby. Now he’s got the chance, in a Rich-Strike-free field, to claw himself and his reputation out of the hole in which his inability to defend his lead in the Derby left him. … [Read more...] about Preakness Stakes 2022: Post Positions, Odds, The Filly Challenger, And Epicenter’s Run For Redemption
