While the Rockets obviously would have preferred to win the lottery, drafting third has some perks, chief among them being a general lack of pressure. The number one pick is always put under the microscope to a high degree, providing the Rockets with the chance of flying under the radar with their selection. Most of the players already own a winner's medal in the competition but for Irene Paredes it is an opportunity to gain revenge on the team that denied her victory in 2017. Then playing for Paris Saint-Germain (PSG), Paredes played all 120 minutes in a goal-less final in Cardiff against Olympique Lyonnais. The match went to a penalty shoot-out which was eventually won by Lyon. Parades and PSG also went out in the 2020 Women's Champions League semi-final to their French rivals. With a solid chance of landing two top-five picks in the 2021 NBA Draft, they ended up with zero. This time around, the odds worked in Oklahoma City’s favor. On Tuesday night, the lottery was set to determine the final draft order for the 2022 NBA Draft. Entering the event, the Thunder had the fourth and 12th best odds of any team in the lottery. When it was all said and done, the Thunder landed the No. 2 and No. 12 overall picks.
