CLEVELAND, Tenn. — Republican primary voters decided to keep half of the four embattled incumbents seeking re-election to the Bradley County Commission. Commissioners Dan Rawls and Robert Rominger, who represent seats in District 6, lost their bids for the Republican nomination to Tim Mason and Erica Davis, respectively. "Erica Davis ran a good race," Rominger said. "It was time for me to step down. I gave it my all and it was not good enough." Davis, who also defeated candidate Tommy Ledford in a three-way race for District 6, Seat B, could not be reached for comment. She received 1,233 votes, while Ledford and Rominger received 468 votes and 692 votes, respectively. Mason defeated Rawls in a landslide for Seat A, with the candidates receiving 1,816 votes and 639 votes, respectively. Neither candidate could be reached for comment. Commissioner Charlotte Peak swept away challenger Alex Morrow in her re-election bid for District 4, Seat A. Early voting results were 55.66 percent for Lawson vs 45.17 for Watson. The polls closed at 8 p.m. and results are being tallied now. Former Bradley County sheriff Tim Gobble is among the 10 finalists for the top job at the Tennessee Bureau of Investigation, multiple Nashville media outlets report. Current Director Mark Gwyn is retiring June 1. The state Department of Human Resources had its first meeting Wednesday and whittled a list of 44 applicants down to 10, News Channel 5 in Nashville reported. Those 10 will be interviewed next month and a final list of three names will be sent to Gov. Bill Haslam. Gobble now serves on the Tennessee Board of Parole. He worked for the U.S. Secret Service and began his public service career with his election to the Cleveland City Council in 2002. He was elected Bradley County sheriff in 2006, giving up the office in 2010 for an unsuccessful bid for the 3rd Congressional District. A Georgia motorist has settled a claim against the Bradley County Sheriff's Office in a 2017 incident in which Sheriff Eric Watson crossed the state line and jerked him out of his truck at gunpoint. And Watson's true target during that April 16, 2017, manhunt has filed a $5 million-plus lawsuit against the sheriff and one of his deputies, Eduardo Choate.
